I hope that Mainers who would object most strenuously to having the law
force them to live by the church's rules will consider whether the law
should force me to live by the church's rules.
Civil marriage is a governmental institution, not a religious one. It should
be available to all citizens, not just those who follow the rules of a
particular religious tradition.

The church's hypocrisy maintains that if you were to marry civilly it
isn't a marriage "in the eyes of God." Yet the same church that says
a civil union is not a marriage in god's eyes, wants to deny civil
unions based on something they say god wants.
Poor pitiful god - always wanting something - maybe this is just
another little secular law the church wants to meddle in.

The ssml is a certified path to mortal sin. God requires we stand in opposition
to it.

Correction, civil contracts are illegal in most states.

It's not allowed by law.

God's blessing is the exact criteria for it to be a marriage.

It's to your benefit that we do. We're keeping you from mortal sin.

Actually there is no civil law for queer marriage except in a few states.
Hardly. Would you like to defend the "God's blessing" sealing the marriages
of the Pagan Romans?

Government ought not reflect the desire of a few Christian sects to keep us
from what they regard as sin in a secular republic. I see more and more of
the wisdom of the anti-clericalism of Mexico, France and Spain.

New York, while not performing the marrigges, recognises them. Between civil
unions and outright marriage about one fifth of the states recognise it.
God's blessing and presence in the marriage is revealed with the coming of the
Messiah. God's love is for his entire creation, not just this part or that
part. And it's all reflected in the individuals and their intentions.

Government is required to reflect the desires of all it's people, and that does
include the religious. And government's recognition has nothing to do with an
act being a sin or not. God is the final authority and his judgment is final.

The point is that no matter how many states recognize it, God doesn't. And his
followers, being citizens of states, will vote their conscience. And dat be da
way it tis.
Then it ought to be int he marriages of same sex couples, though it is an
affront to a secular republic that one or a few faiths' religious coception
of marriage dominated the legal definition. Thankfully, that is changing.

I worship a Goddess, as do many women. My government, if it imposes the
viewpoint of a few Christian sects upon us, is perforce violating the
Constitution and those religions are perverting the secular republic. Per
se, my religion carries as much weih in the secular republic as does yours.
We permit same sex marriage.
Your religion, in the end will end up being restrained and suppressed
because of its ceaseless attempts to surreptitiously or overtly bend the
laws of this nation to itself.
The Church will scream discrimination, but in the end it will have done it
to itself.
God specifically rejects the lifestyle of the homosexual.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New International Version)
9Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be
deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male
prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards
nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
God gives you the free the choice to live your life as you wish. But the civil
courts are not the final judge, God is.

Fine. Then in this world, because of your church's ceaseless and oppressive

Nobody has ever come back from the dead to attest to it's

"What is it the New Testament teaches us? To believe that the Almighty
committed debauchery with a woman engaged to be married; and the
belief of this debauchery is called faith."
-- Thomas Paine
"The Christian system of religion is an outrage on common sense."
-- Thomas Paine
"My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of
salvation and the human origin of the scriptures, have become clearer
and stronger with advancing years and I see no reason for thinking I
shall ever change them."-- Abraham Lincoln (yes, I know that Lincoln
wasn't a Founding
Father)
You bought it, didn't you?

Thats only because, recently, some people have been persuaded by satan to kill
the human unborn.

But built a country based on Christian principles.

You can not kill an "unhuman who has not been born yet."
Tell us the number of catholic women who had abortions last year. What
percentage of all the abortions is that?
Your church isn't doing a very good job of getting its members to play
by its rules.
You need to get your house in order before you try to tell everyone
else that YOU think they are wrong.

Hey, dave, out of jail again? So the fetus is dead dog?
Maybe you can comment re the unborn baby having a beating heart, sucking it's
thumb, and other things that live human beings have.

They didn't give you this info in jail?

There are no member rules, doug. God spoke, and man elects to follow God or
follow satan.

Well, well, well, what great information for you yourself to follow.
As long as the country is run by legalized bribery that's all you will
get while Insurance companies and big Pharma will get what they paid
for.
