That is the goal. Once I start I don't quit till it is gone or I pass out.
I am tired of feeling bad the next morning. I blacked out last Saturday.
Thankfully I didn't do anything stupid and they said I had a good time. I
can't abide by that anymore.
I called an AA hotline last week. They gave me a local number and I got an
answering machine. I left a message but no one called me back. Just now I
called the hotline again and the guy told me a meeting place and time. If I
can overcome my social anxiety/phobia I will go to the one that starts in
three hours. Drinking all the time is just too expensive in so many ways.

You seem to have a problem with both desiring to quit, and desiring
to have fun by drinking. Such confusion is common. People are always
of two minds when they are first quitting drinking. I know that I was.
Try reading this: It might help.

8 days is better than nothing. Don't beat yourself up about it. climb back
on the wagon and try again, and see if you can remember what was on your
mind when you bought the beer. it may seem irrelevent but you never know.
you might find you have a trigger.
Cheers

I did it! It wans't so bad. When I got to the place I hit the gas and had
to make myself turn around and go back. I met a few folks and I wasn't to
uncomfortable. One guy even acted suprised that it was my first meeting
because I seemed so at ease. I learned long time ago how to put on a bold
front. Wish I could do it in every situation. Anyway, I will go back.

I hope so. My "good" friends and neighbors tell me I gotta have a little
fun and am I sure I don't want a beer. If we were kids I could understand
their attitude.

First, good going on putting 8 days together. Depending on where you
live, the names of the clubs that generally have enough meetings for
anyone to stay sober are alano clubs, arid, some variation of dry, and if
push comes to shove, http://www.aa.org/en_find_meeting.cfm?PageID=29 may
also be useful.

We all pretty much start where you are. Not many of us bite, and most of
us have had our shots. :)
