I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those in this
group who have served their nation by putting their life on the line as
members of the armed forces. Thank you for the sacrifices you and your
families put forth in order to protect and defend the values of your
country.

It would be more equitable having each individual fight
the flu on his own, rather than waste resources having
armies fight each other over resources. By stopping
the suppression of influenza, /everyone/ could be on
the front lines, instead of just a few good men.

Okay, but then why didn't it work like this in the past, prior to flu
vaccinations? It should have been a much happier time, years ago, when
Mr. Flu was allowed to do his thing. Right? Instead we got both
disease AND bloodshed. Or is this your Utopian ideal? Once upon a time
there will be no such thing as war, and no fighting over resources
because influenza will do a much better job of population control?
Everyone will be content to just sit there and take their lumps, and
when it's over, share the proceeds equitably amongst those who remain.
No one will ever want any more than what they have....

Not sure what you're asking, David. Or what this has to do with what
we're talking about. Do these things make any difference to your claim
that by allowing influenza equal access to everyone, you'll put and end
to want and need? And to war itself?? I don't know, that's your
position, not mine.

> Do you

Not necessarily....

What I do expect though is that there will ALWAYS be wars. And I expect
that they'll always be started, either by people arrogant to the point
that they'll justify taking by force more than they need OR by people
made desperate by need, enough so that they'll take by force that which
they do not already possess...

arrogant more than they need there will be no more wars? If so let's
give the desperate a flu shot and the arrogant two flu shots.

The days of the "desperate by need" having war options are pretty much
over. Power consolidates moment by moment. Remember what Bush wanted
early on? Smaller tactical "Nucular" weapons. Don't take a rocket
scientist to guess what the global chess players want with something
like that.

http://www.un.org/ga/63/generaldebate/pga63_opening.shtml

President of the 63rd Session of the General Assembly
23 September 2008

Miguel D’Escoto Brockmaa (Nicaragua), acknowledging the
large scale and interrelated crises facing the world today,
called for Member States to seize the opportunity to work
together collectively and cooperatively -- not by making
speeches and statements of good intentions, but through
concrete action based on the “golden rule” that guided
humankind’s behaviour. The United Nations’ illustrious
history clearly reflected its many laudable actions.
However, the fulfillment of its primary purpose --
eliminating war, achieving disarmament and ensuring
international security –- had clearly failed. The pressing
& man-made problems of climate change, efforts to privatize
water, the build-up of arms, terrorism, human trafficking,
the situation of Palestine, humanitarian aid, gender
inequality, children in especially difficult circumstances
such as armed conflict, as well as the fact that half the
world are living in hunger and poverty, could be directly
linked to the lack of democracy in the United Nations.

Noting that decisions with the most serious consequences
did not go through the General Assembly, & that the wishes
and resolutions of 95 per cent of the Organization's Members
were viewed as “recommendations”, he expressed his belief
that unless this changed, significant progress towards the
targets established in the Millennium Declaration would be
impeded. Indeed, if Member States did not choose a path of
solidarity with one another, the very existence of the human
race would continue to be jeopardized. “Either we love one
another or we all perish; either we treat each other as
brothers and sisters or we witness the beginning of the end
of our human species.”

He reminded the Assembly delegations that the peoples of the
entire world turned to the Member States and the gathering of
Heads of State and Government to be assured of a universal
commitment to defend the United Nations, to uphold the
principle of the sovereign equality of all Member States,
and for all Members to meet their Charter obligations so that
the continued & successful efforts towards a world-wide peace
be ensured and protected. Recalling that 2009 was the Int'l
Year of Reconciliation, he urged Member States to determine
to stop the arrogant attacks on one another and to adopt a
mindset of reconciliation, collaboration and courageous
forgiveness to those who had caused pain and suffering.
“Forgiveness is never a sign of weakness,” he said, emphasizing
that achieving broader levels of unity and solidarity would
guarantee the possibility of a different and more prosperous
world.

Shared belief in the "Golden Rule" (Ethics of Reciprocity)

"Every religion emphasizes human improvement, love, respect
for others, sharing other people's suffering. On these lines
every religion had more or less the same viewpoint and the
same goal." --The Dalai Lama

Religious groups differ greatly in their concepts of deity,
other beliefs & practices. Non-theistic ethical & philosophic
systems, like Humanism and Ethical Culture, also exhibit a
wide range of beliefs. But there is near unanimity of opinion
among almost all religions, ethical systems and philosophies
that each person should treat others in a decent manner.
Almost all of these groups have passages in their holy texts,
or writings of their leaders, which promote this Ethic of
Reciprocity. The most commonly known version in North America
is the Golden Rule of Christianity. It is often expressed as
"Do onto others as you would wish them do onto you."

Are you sure you haven't missed a step or two? Like getting the near 7
billion inhabitants of earth to all agree to the deal? Or did you think
that understanding the /necessity/ was the same thing as agreeing to
your step two?

Unless, of course, you were planning on forcing this thing to happen.
In which case, why not simply have a war?
