I was messing around, trying to find why I can't get sound on my Dell
Mini with UNR.
On the Ubuntu Forums, I found someone who said he installed something
called "Sun VirtualBox," which solved the problem.
I don't know about that (yet), but I am typing this on my MacBook,
under OSX, running a VirtualBox of UNR 9.10.
And it's *free*, not a demo.
The site seems to say you can run Linux on Windows, Windows on Linux,
either on a Mac, etc.
You may want to check it out.
(OTOH, it may be old news to both of you. If so, Never Mind!)
Rob
Oh, and oddly enough, sound works on it while running a VB on my
MacBook. Go figure.
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
And since this last post, I have stopped that one, set up a new one,
and am now running on MacBook under Linux Mint.
This is too cool a toy to ignore.
Dare I screw around with WinDoH!s?
Geez, Frank... I wonder when he finds time to write his homily. ;-)
Go for it.
I have Virtualbox on this machine and have played around with it some. A
lot of people use it to try out new distros, rather than doing a hard
drive install on a physical partition. Me, I don't mess with it much, as
I don't have the kind of memory one needs to be able to split it up
between the host and the guest and get decent performance out of either.
In fact, that is about the only justification I could come up with for
updating my hardware -- if it weren't for running VMs, I really couldn't
complain about this machines performance at all, even at it's age. The
1.67GHz AMD processor is already slower than what was in the last couple
of machines I've had given to me as "old". My 1024MB of RAM has served
me well, but any more the bare minimum is 2G, and the emerging standard
is 4G.

The Lord has nothing to do with overpriced, proprietary hardware.
And speaks in tongues....apparently.
Seen one church ya seem em all. Woe is me, I'm a sick puppy. I just
saw this scene for the first time and it made me laugh like hell. My
mother was right, I /am/ hopeless.
Pretty funny what orthodox Muslims do too. Like today, fer instance.
How come it's fashionable for the politically correct liberal to bash
Christianity, and at the same time, no matter what, studiously ignore
the myriad atrocities committed in the name of Islam?
Tara seems to have an ongoing obsession with "tongue". She fantasizes about
being "done" by multiple tongues.
Left wingers/LIEbrawls do it all the time. Totally blind to the atrocities
committed by terrorists around the world, they carp, kvetch and moan about
some prisoner having his Koran knocked to the floor or some prisoner having
panties around his head. Meanwhile they ignore westerners being slowly
beheaded.
What in the world are you referring to?

Whats a politically correct liberal? What in the world are you
referring to? Back on the high octane caffeine again?
I watched the Fox coverage of the story earlier, and now I'm watching
Rachael Maddow for the MSNBC version. Same story, but so far there
isn't the slightest fact in common being reported by the two camps.
The Fox version: A muslim Army officer, not wanting to go to overseas to
fight fellow muslims, killed 12 people.
The MSNBC version: There is much confusion about what happened at Fort
Hood because the US Army corrected prior incorrect statements that the
shooter was killed. Then they brought in Jim McLshitheadsky, who
poo-pooed the Army's lack of clarity in handling presenting the facts
straight. I kid you not. Not one mention about the shooter's motives,
only critisism of the Army. Un-fucking believable.
If you're relying on MSNBC to get the story, you will be thoroughly misled.
Thanks for filling me in on what you were talking about. Why you chose
to jump on a post that was a joke is curious.

You're kidding, right? "All propaganda all the time" Fox has convicted
the guy of being a Muslim and you are ready to join the lynching party.
If you ever get busted, you deserve a jury of like minded citizens,
people who get their facts from conservative pundits. "Un-fucking
believable" indeed.
I purposely avoided *all* the talking heads for the simple reason that
it will be news 24/7 for Gawd knows how long. I did notice the shooter
was a doctor, not a soldier. How did your trusted servants at Fox
conclude that he would be killing *anyone*?
I did catch the last half of The Daily Show. Its a must see. Jon
Stewart did an incredible impersonation of Glen Beck. Should be up
tomorrow.
That's why I turned the channel to get another reporting of the story.
I got no reporting of the story whatsoever on Maddows show. All the
show discussed was how Army people are over-stressed.
If people were killed in a bank robbery, the fact that a bank robber was
robbing a bank would have something to do with the story.
"Convicted" of being in a religion?
Uhm... You do know that the guy IS a Muslim, right?
What role that played in his decision remains to be seen.

Original reports also said the police officer who stopped him was
killed. But now it seems that, though she is seriously hurt, she is alive.

That was hilarious. I haven't seen enough of Beck to know how accurate
it was - but it was funny nonetheless...
LIEbrawls, dishonest intellectuals that they are, just love to have their
own bullshit recycled.
That was my point.

Of the few clips I've seen (usually by people making fun of him) it was
spot on. Looks like Beck has borrowed a page from that TV Preacher from
around here, the late Reverend Scott, The Shock Jock of Televangelism."

Speaking of "bullshit recycled," how many time do you think you have
posted this redundant expose of your intellectual limitations?
Ditto if you're following the Fox version.
Interesting how quickly you showed your
allegiances though. Especially since Fox had
as many of the facts wrong as everyone else.
I figured I would hold off on obsessively
following the story so that I could hear the
story after the bozos got all the facts
straight....like that the gunman WASN'T
killed. Just THAT took everybody multiple
hours to get right.
And where did you get the info that he's an
"Orthodox Muslim"? (seeing as that was your
intro line for this particular gem...)
We went from computer geek funning to the "Orthodox Muslim." I /think/
he was referring to speaking in tongues but I wouldn't be on it.
Did you read Exley's lead-in line?
According to Exley, he was an "*Orthodox
Muslim*".
Not sure where he's getting his inside info
though.
>

Not according to Fox news and Exley though.
Apparently they've already made that
decision. That's kind of the point being made
about the "conviction".

They're all fucking batshit crazy. The
training group I worked with at one point
started turning away client who were
Psychiatrists because, even if we didn't
immediately know what their career was, the
specific types of dysfunction and the bizarre
dynamics in their homes made us want to steal
whatever puppy was involved and flee the
scene. Every. Single. Time.
They serve a good purpose, so I guess I'm
glad for whatever insanity causes them to
choose and stay in that profession, but I
have yet to meet one that isn't all-out nuts.

After the South Park bit go to the 7 minute mark.
Oh yeah. She's something else. Does the whole blackboard deal just
like Gene.
Fox interviewed the man's cousin. You might want to tune in to hear
their reporting of the incident, even if you 'just know' Fox is full of
shit. If nothing else, the polar opposite manner in the style Fox is
presenting the story contrasted with how MSNBC is presenting the story
is fascinating, indeed.
"Orthodox Muslim"?
My own words ma'am. I thought it was oxymoronically clever :)
As for credible news sources, ever since Dan Rather left CBS News seems
to be the most balanced.
> I figured I would hold off on obsessively following the story so that I

My thoughts as well.
No matter the network, in the race to babble first and most, the facts
are of secondary importance.
I tune into her show on occasion. The mind-boggling bullshit the lady
presents is a fascinating study in befuddling the gullible with
pseudo-erudite nonsense : )
Exactly. Those that hang on each breath
exhaled by the talking heads as thought their
need to know impacts events....
well, I just don;t get it. Those that follow
with that impulse tend to trade truth for
immediacy.
No thanks.
Virginia! That's what I heard. Dunno if it was West Virgina or not, but
what's difference. We all know about them Virginia people based on our
ARAA experiences.
Leave to to Virgina to fsck up a Good Moslem.

Speaking of watching breaking news -
Just got home from work and am seeing that there was anther shooting.
"Disgruntled former employee" type deal.
Where the hell are we going, and why are we in this hand-basket...
Screw it - gonna round up the better half and and take her out to dinner
and a movie...
Thinking maybe "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs."
And M.D., as a matter of fact. their specialty could be referred to
as "disease of the mind," the same way an oncologist is a doctor who
deals with cancer, a hematologist specialized in blood, and a
proctologist specializes in Sharx. . .
heh. Faddah made a funny :-)
Apparently the only re-show is today at 4pm. I caught the tail end of
it last night, and want to see it again. Yes, it was a spot-on
brilliant performance, topped only by the time he made hamburger of Jim
Cramer -muckraking at it's finest.
Just keep up with the news guys. Swallow the bias about newsvendors

Tommy, issues like "reportedly" are kind of
the point. How things are reported.
The news I just heard said that those reports
have been unsubstantiated as yet. This guy
may well have fallen into a bizarre and
violent fundie-ism (they also had an
interview with his old Imam, who was
vehemently against the vile evil this man
perpetrated against his fellow man), but
certain aspects of the media are *trying* to
turn this into something that simply as yet
has not been determined by those who are
actually investigating this crime.
I hate to say it dude, but you kind of just
exemplified my point about those who would
rather trade truth for immediacy.
I've used the word 'reportedly' to show that the news is/often
is/mostly is 'sensationalised.
However, if you check the links, (I think I left one from eyewitnesses
out) and when the 'truth' comes out, he was definitely giving away his
possessions the previous day. A fore-runner for someone completing
suicide is to give away your prized possessions. This guy is on the
FBI list for some internet chats he'd had previously. I'm not going
to be condescending with you, but google is very often the only friend
we have :)
By now you are probably in possession of a lot more news that has
broken, so I urge you to delve into what is available. PS the US army
has it on its own webpage.
I'm going back over my last visited to find what I'm mostly referring
to
Cheers

This link works for me. After the short South Park lead in the first
segment ends at just over 7 minutes. Thats where the parody starts.
Good choice.
I'm probably going with "Hostel - The
Director's Cut"
Either movie beats the reality on the news
these days :-P
Thanks. Caught the clip on Media Matters today.
Then, just for kicks, I thought I'd randomly
select a Glenn Beck clip to see how well Jon
actually did.
It was this one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szlLM5lCNJg
Oh my god....if anything, Jon downplayed it!
I'm not interested in comparing whose
coverage is more partisan. 'll leave that to
those with partisan agendas to promote. I'd
rather hear decent reporting and good facts
coming through....even if those facts are
that the flurry of "information" being
broadcast can't be verified or confirmed by
anyone who is investigating.
For some reason, I just don't think my
hearing every rumor the second it comes out
of an anchorperson's mouth does one thing to
enhance the investigation or the furtherance
of truth.
Like I said: I'd rather be patient and wait
to hear truth (whatever that is) than suck on
every teat offered by those who are in a rush
to promote their own newshounding abilities.
Agreed. Jon was brilliant. I presume you watched Olbermann go over the
Beck rant and pick it apart:
Nah. I'll check out the link, but I don't
really watch Olbermann.
I never watch Fox. With MSNBC I watch a little of Olbermann, a little
of Maddow and a little of Ed Schultz. Goz won't believe it but I can't
stand Chris Matthews either. The only way I know the latest Faux Pas on
Fox or Rush is by way of MSNBC. I'm watching all of them less and less
all the time however.
If the truth won't "set you free", perhaps understanding the nature of
"truth" can help.

Schultz is a clown ... Obermann has become MSNBC's Bill'O....Maddow
was a bright spot, but is fading...Matthews still has the best guests,
but seems to have lost his balls....Fox ain't worth watching at all
... when the football season ends I'll just cancel directv and save

Very admirable. My point is we'll *never* get it from some sources.
Fox nailed it correctly on day one. The Rachel Maddow show will *never*
do so. Even today, while CBS and all the mainstream media reported the
man was driven by his Islamic faith, MSNBC studiously avoided this
salient fact, preferring instead to imply this 'mysterious' shooting was
somehow the fault of the Army, or bullying, or stress -anything but the
truth. Pure garbage masquerading as journalism.
We ended up seeing "This Is It".
I highly recommend it.
Good night all around - we haven't been out much this year.
Great steak, great movie, great company...
Feeling much more optimistic today.
Leaving the TV off and going out to clean up some leaves.
LMAO, you're a hoot Fred.
But better informed than your average clown.

Funny. The authorities don't even KNOW the
"truth" of what was behind this attack yet.
Maybe you ought to offer your services (and
that of your Fox news) to those doing the
investigation. They clearly need that arrow
straight bee-line to The Truth you seem to
know how to isolate on each channel. Magical....
I've lived in poverty and up to upper middle class most of my life but
in sobriety I learned to save. The result is that having enough money

being comfortable is ok by me:-)

Don't forget Rush, he makes worst persons almost every day. I think it
was yesterday that Keith gave a total for the number of times Rush has
referred to the anus or made anal jokes and suggested Rush has an anal
fixation. Rush had said "that if the British Prime Minister keeps
"slobbering" over President Barack Obama, he'll "come down with anal
poisoning and may die from it."
