In my parents' tradition, lent starts on Monday, not Wed. Except that when
you do the math, and it says 40 days from easter is lent, it's Monday, not
Wed. Wed is like 3-4 days in either direction.

We do have very complicated other Lenten traditions , but each orthodoxy may
have its own somewhat different version.
