Hello all..

Hoping to find someone on the group here who is using the Honda GX620
engine for thrust. This is a twin cylinder 20 HP engine. My
question(s) revolve around the exhaust and muffler arangement. I
bought this engine brand new, and it does not come with any muffler or
exhaust manifold. The muffler that is available is a large
cylindrical type that mounts on the back of the engine above the
crankshaft. It will be in the way of the prop which I plan on
mounting directly to the engine. Can pipes be fabricated and mounted
to each cylinder independently without harming the engine? I am
concerned that there may not be enough back pressure with a dual
exhaust setup. Maybe it will actually be better for performance like
running headers on an automobile engine, but I don't want to toast
this new engine. Also any tips on running cables for the choke and
throttle would be helpful too. I have been lurking around on this
site for quite sometime and really appreciate everyone's help. By the
way, my pictures of my 12T4 are on Rob Tiltons web site at:

tiltons.net

Click on Hovercraft vidoes and then click on Dave's UH12T4. My photos
are not in the order of build, but maybe they will help someone who is
building a craft like this. Rob also has pictures and excellent
videos of his 12T4. I am hoping to get my motor mount glassed in and
paint the craft and get the skirt put on. I will post more follow-up
to my progress if anyone is intrested. Thanks so much... Please post
any help here on the newsgroup...

That is a mighty nice looking thrust shieve! How much does it weigh?
It seems like you "could" have even more lightening holes w/o affecting the
integrity.

Man ... I need to get a lathe! So many tools ... so little time and money!

Ths upper pulley is only 16 pounds. :) At least I know where I can shave
a few pounds off of the craft.

Hi Dave,
We use this engine alot in pressure washers, great engine,we had
different single cylinder configurations of the honda exhausts from
various manufacturers some cracked with the heat and vibration but
without a doubt the best and quietest is the cylindrical honda
muffler, if you can fit it in. There are gear boxes available for
these engines also. Check out the hot washers in www.tuff-pw.com youll
see what I mean. they should have the pipes your looking for.

I just went through a similiar situation with a Kohler Command engine on
a Sevtec Surveyor. I bought
a factory Kohler muffler from Tulsa Engine Warehouse. I can not
remember their exact URL but if you
do a google search I am sure you will hit it. They have a nice page
detailing what is available for mufflers
on the engines they carry (including Honda). For Kohher engines they
also showed what was available
for just manifolds. Don't know if they do the same for Hondas. The plus
side for the factory muffler a.)
it fits b.) I don't have to put much time into it. The downside a.) too
heavy probably close to 10 lbs b.)
less performance. I highly doubt it has any scavenging affect, one pipe
is 6" the other probably 16" or
more. If power is an issue when I get it running that will be my first
modification. I will probably get two
round screw on type mufflers rated for >= 12 HP. Hope this helps.

Hi Dave,

I've got one mounted on a second-hand UK F25 craft, and I have the manual
...... :-) :-)

Mine uses little twin sticky-out exhausts. I think these are standard parts.

The engine is out at the moment whilst I have been fixing the underside.

Very reliable! Very heavy!

What do you want to know ???

Tony
