“The Temple of the Incubus” is a ninety-six page novella by Ryan
Keith Johnson who also wrote “Lion Ascend”, “What I Think About You”
and “The King’s Retribution”. The novella started off as a short story
based on his dream in 1998 while he was writing “Lion Ascend” and “The
King’s Retribution”. Through the years the story evolved into a horror
similar to A Nightmare on Elm Street, but to make it different it was
an evil entity that was chasing after young girls for their virginity
not their souls.
The story is about Shannon, a troubled teenager, who has nightmares
of a demon chasing after her. She has a troubled life in high school
and her mother is hard on her with the way she dresses. Nobody
understands her except Tammra her best friend.
They break into an abandoned house and come across a gold chest. When
they open it they get sucked into a nightmarish hell with no way to
escape. The Incubus pities them and decides to give them a chance to
escape, but it may take more than wits to escape. The story is
different in the respect that it takes place here in the real world
and not a made up world.
The story is the first horror novella written by the author who went
from writing about a fairy tale mythical mask to a Christian Novella
with bible stories as themes throughout the novella. The thriller
horror novella is a mind boggling story that will keep you guessing
until the very end. When you think you got it figured out you’ll be
stomped to know you were wrong. The story is also very emotional
between the main character Shannon and her mother Sharon. The reader
will find out what caused the mother and daughter to split apart. The
book targets teenagers fifteen years old and up.
