I've been shopping for a new backpack and have been having problems finding
the right size and capacity in the same pack.

The problem is I prefer to wear my waist strap low - about where my belt
usually is - rather than up on my hip bones. This preference requires a
pack with a torso measurement in the 21-22" range but at the same time I
only need a pack in the 3000-3500 ci capacity range.

Do any of you know of a manufacturer that makes an internal frame pack this
small (3000-3500 cu in) that will adjust up to a 21 or 22" length? Most of
the shops in my area sell Kelty stuff and their smaller capacity packs only
seem to go up to a 19" torso. The only pack that they have that goes to 22"
is a larger, 4500 cu in pack.

Does the pack I'm looking for exist? Any help would be appreciated.

The Moraine 3200 goes 18-21" That high side is just on your low side.

My favorite pack for this application is the Serratus Icefall Long Torso.
At only 3.2 lbs and $100 USD you can't beat it. You can get it at
www.mec.ca.

I am in a similar boat to you. I want a big pack and also I have a long
torso. I ended up having to get a custom pack made. I have to say that my
pack totally kicks ass. If you don't mind flipping the bill for one, McHale
packs rock. There are lots of other things besides its size which set it
apart. I can very easily carry 75 lbs and it feels like 40. He's in Seattle,
WA. I'm lucky as I'm in BC, Canada and am only about 2hrs away from his
shop. He does do phone orders, but my personal preference was to have him
measure me himself so there are no mistakes. His site is www.mchalepacks.com

Kelty Moraine 3200 I think goes to 22" -- 21 for sure. It currently
sells in the US$80-125 range.
