Views of the Linn Cove Viaduct. This is a bridge on the Blue Ridge
parkway that encircles Grandfather Mountain. Due to its unique design, it
seems to float around the mountain.

The man who owned the mountain wouldn't let them blast out a roadway,
stalling the project for years, so they were forced to come up with the
method used. The pieces are essentially U-shaped concrete forms fit together
with rubber insulators.

Glad they didn't alter the geography...
