Hello

I am not certain that this is the right forum to discuss this,
but I try anyway.

I have trouble finding the right kind of jacket to buy. A jacket
that is waterproof and breathable, with a zip-in lining (fleece
for example, or warmer), so I can use it in winter as well as in
summer. A jacket that has a hood, drawcords in hem and waist, and
that has at least four pockets : two handwarmer-pockets and two
breast-pockets.

Do you know any company that has a product like that ? Hope-
fully I could find a retailer of that company in Sweden, where
I live.

Thank You, Anna Wiren

The North Face has a mountaineering jacket which meets most of your
requirements. Comes with a zip-in liner for cold weather. Check out the
Campmor web site. they might ship to Sweden.

"columbia' make a product similar to the one you described in your post.
Personally i am not familiar with their full product range, but being
american, they do have garments for ever situation.
Head down to your nearest outdoor specalist and check it out for your self.

Helly-Hansen. Just watch out for the ones made in China. My wife and
I got similar Helly's about a year ago, and hers hardly shows wear,
and the stitching has come out in two places on mine. Hers was made
in Indonesia or Malaysia, and mine was made in China. (Otherwise
identical.)

Except for the stitching problem on mine, a great shell.

have you considered that one of you may have purchased a forgery jacket?
You might want to contact the warranty dept at HH: 800-435-5901 and talk
to them about your problems. Certain other manufacturers have had problems
with forgeries, it's not an impossibility.
HH usually has very good quality. At any rate, if it's not a forged coat
they ought to take care of the manufacturing defects under warranty.

Anna,

LL Bean's "All Conditions" Jacket. Perfect for your needs. I have and live
in Scotland. I'm extremely happy with it.

I also have the LLBean "All conditions" Jacket and am pleased with it.
3 ply Gore-Tex. Pit zips, large inside chest pocket that you can stuff 1/2
your
pack into. Very tough rip-stop shell.

Marmot's alpinist and alpinist light also is a nice Jacket (2-3ply)

....Anything but TNF Mountain light (IMHO, over rated and over priced
-even on sale)

Helly-Hansen RULES!

Did as you suggested. Turns out it is not a forgery, but an older one that was
made in China and is no longer made by them. Their Customer Service department
(Kelli in particular) was super!

They have had other problems with items fabricated in China and have recently
declined to accept at least one item made there, according to Kelli.

They offered to repair my jacket at no charge, but when she saw that I was
unhappy with the overall quality of the stitching (besides the two areas that
already had ripped out stitching), she offered to replace it with a new one of
comparable value (the All-Mountain jacket, in Amber. Two extra vent zips beside
the pits. Radio pocket. Lots more features above and beyond a simple quality
shell.) I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with the way this problem was
handled by them.

While I like other quality gear as well, and will continue to buy from other
quality brands as well, I will be a Helly-Hansen customer for life, and would
strongly recommend that anyone looking for a topline jacket (or any other
outdoor gear they make) get their catalog and at least consider it before
buying.

I could not have asked for a better outcome to my problem.

Thanks, Penny, for the suggestion and their number.

And Great Big Thanks, Kelli and Helly-Hansen, for being everything I want in a
gear supplier and more. If you ever need an unsolicited customer testimonial,
feel free to contact me.
