Break in cartridges for the Savage were five cycles of four -
Remington Managed Recoil (125gr) and two Federal High Energy...latest
sku P3006TT4. ...almost the ultimate extremes of high and low
pressure from factory cartridges. Is break in important? I do not
know. All I know is that rifle is one helluva an accurate shooter.
It was NOS ($399) and has the old synthetic stock everyone bitches
about AND is pre accu-trigger. I adjusted the trigger using the
stock screws etc to maybe 5 lbs and it breaks like glass... with some
overtravel that I think is a big positive. I do NOT understand the
logic behind minimizing overtravel. On the contrary, I think you MUST
HAVE some overtravel in a "hunting or sniper" rifle... and I BELIEVE
it can be easily proven if you try it at the target range in a logical
manner.
Yes that is the "secret".. Overtravel....try it ...you will like it
....Happy New Year.
Then I bought a new NOS Simmons off E-bay ...$50 for a normally
$90 unit...that stays rock solid on a .243 single shot. ..apparently
1MOA again.
I was looking at the Tasco Tasco 4-16X by 40mm TR Scope for $100 and
decided I'll stick with the $50-70 Simmons stuff since I do not think
I can keep up with anything better, If I win the lottery I will get
some $1500 Leupold and a Nikon and a Nightforce and see what they are
all about.
Based on my experience with the Savage-Simmons pkg,.... I am not a
good enough shooter ...nor do I shoot the distances .....so that an
expensive scope would be of benefit to me. Do you ?
