Push Pin Map

I thought I might get some help from you all here. What I am looking for
is a computer version of a "push pin map". By that I mean a map of the
United States that I can put a "pin" anywhere I want on the map to indicate
something like where a Cache has been found or anything else for that
matter. I know Ham radio guys use them to mark where they have contacted
others through out the world, but I want a computer version. Any one know of
such a program or any ideas?

I think that many of the street map programs available for PCs have
that facility. You could check out Delorme's web site.
Two I use are Microsoft's "Streets and Trips 2002" and National
Geographic's "Topo!" both allow you to put push pins on the map. If
you care about lat/long than "Topo!" is slightly more convenient; but
if you care more about street addresses than S&T is. They have other
differences.
"Topo!" comes in many versions. You would want the version with the
general US map.

I don't really care so much as to have the street address level detail.
I just actually want city/town detail. I will just be using it to put a push
pin in the city/town. I would actually prefer not to have all that much
detail on the map like rivers, small streets, points of interest etc. I
would like to be able to see the entire US on my screen and see the push
pins on the map.

Wouldn't Tiger maps work for this?

This is just the type of maps I am looking for. Any one know how I can
d-load the base maps and be able to put my own "Pins" in the map?

I use Streets and Trips exclusively for keeping track of the caches I've
found. You can download .loc files from geocaching.com (or setup a pocket
query and get them in your email), convert them to csv using geobuddy
(www.geobuddy.com) and in about 1 minute have all or your
found/notfound/hidden caches in a map that you can zoom in and out of and
pan around.
When I find a new cache, I right mouse click on the push pin and change the
dataset to "Found" (one of several datasets) which automatically changes the
pushpin to the default of the dataset you chose.
In addition, S+T recognizes the URL in the import and keeps it in the
pushpin information. When you press Control and click on a pushpin it goes
right to the cache page online, where you can log your find etc.
Streets and Trips is pretty cheap and you can do all kinds of neat things
like search for the nearest garage, or chinese restaurant, or museum near a
point. If your out caching in an urban area you can preplan where to go for
lunch afterwards. The information even includes the phone number.
As for one persons comment that it's only good for Street addresses, this
just isn't true. Your imported geocaching.com data comes in based on
lat/long and if you go to the "Find" window you can search by lat/long (in
degree decimal format only though ).
The only thing that S+T doesn't do for you is give you detailed Topo
information. For that you can just click the pushpin and go to the
geocaching.com site, then select one of the map links at the bottom of the
cache description.
I'd strongly recommend you try S+T for what you want to do as it sounds like
it fits your needs.

DXATLAS has this feature with multiple colours of pins.
I think it's shareware or some such, which is quite cheap.
I strongly advise downloading the extra files for the higher resolution.
The other advantage to this program is it will find any lon/lat on the map
too.

manually for the past couple months. And I thought I was the only one who
did this!

Street & Trips works perfect for tracking caches. Attach your GPS to a
laptop and you are in business.
