Just spent the Memorial Day weekend at "Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park" -
Plymouth Indiana in our
'99 Flagstaff 820.
The weekend went well. The park is pretty nice but it is so HUGE that we
were'nt comfortable letting
the (3) kiddies go to some of the child's activities because they were held
in a rec center way over
on the other end of the campground.
The park seems to make a lot of it's money by renting out golf carts. It was
$153 for a 2 seater or
$189 for a 4 seater for the 3 day weekend. We opted to save the money and
do the walking to get around the park. We were definitely in the minority.
At around 11:45 PM Saturday night they held what they called a "Poker Run",
where they charged $5 to do a golf cart parade. What seemed to be 400 golf
carts paraded past the camp site with horns chirping and people 'Yahooing'.
Since we didn't (read: my wife would'nt let me) spend the money on a cart,
we were annoyed at the noise and spent a good hour around the camp fire
complaining about it. :)
One thing that WAS annoying about the golf carts was that some people think
it's OK to let their 12 or 13 year old child loose in the park driving them.
With 3 small children, we were slightly peeved that we would have to worry
about them getting run down by an inexperienced driver operating a golf cart
on their way to the bathroom.
The people working at the park were very friendly and prices weren't all
that unreasonable.
We weathered our first big storm in the pop-up and saw no leakage, but did
have problems with the add-a-room (another post).
It ended up being a good weekend, and we found that the port-a-potty was the
best $50 investment we ever made.
