I bought an Ozark Trail air mattress last night that comes with a
pump. It LOOKS like a foot pump, but I haven't opened the package as
yet. Is this a decent mattress and is the foot pump going to drive me
nuts?

Personaly for those trips where space isn't a premium, and thus I can
afford to spare a bit of room for a matress, I take a self inflating
mat. Good ones are a bit pricey, but well worth it. As long as you
store it inflated so it gets used to being all spread out they will
inflate themselves pretty quickly and just need couple puffs to plump
them perfectly.

I purchased an air mattress last night. It's an Ozark Trail and it
comes with a foot pump and two pillows. Does anyone know if this is a
reliable mattress? Second question....should I have gotten the
electric pump instead of the foot pump (the foot pump came with this
particular mattress). I would really appreciate any feedback anyone
can give me.

I have a thermarest and the documentation that came with it said to store it
flat and with the valve open.

We have one of those. The first one had a factory defect and leaked air as we
slept. The second one however is just fine. It takes about 10 minutes to air
it up and the foot pump is kind of wheezy sounding but not obnoxious.

This is a great mattress. Almost more comfortable than my bed at home. I
don't care for the pillows so I use my own little polyester-filled camp
pillow. Yes, the foot pump will drive you nuts. Go back and look for the
kind of pump you can plug into your car's cigarette lighter. I found them
at Wal-Mart for $5. Look in the inflatable water toys section and/or the
automotive section for the cheap one. If you use the mattress at home you
can inflate it with your hairdryer. They are very comfy. Good luck!

A cheap airpump may not be able to inflate your mattress with enough
pressure to "fill" the mattress they way you would like. Keep that in mind.

Personally, I had a Coleman PumpII and upgraded to the one with rechargeable
batteries. It has more "puff" for the buck.

You will probably want to get an electric pump. I prefer the 12 volt ones
that plug into a cigarette lighter.

This is what I use (very similar to what I use) for my air mattress.

It works reasonably well. No need for batteries or any hookups. :)

I have bought two of the cheap inflators and both worked fine.

Can you tell me again where to look for these inflators? The ones
that Wal-Mart had next to the air mattresses were $15-$20 each.

Go to the automotive section where they have devices you can plug into your
cigarette lighter and look around. I found a really nice inflator there for
$5. Went back a few weeks later and bought one for my friend. If you can't
find it there, go to the inflatable pool/water toys section and look around
there. I got a different kind there (not quite as nice) for about $5 too.
Good luck!
