Company Profile & History
Ownership
Wheel & Sprocket was founded in 1973 in Hales Corners by Frank Tamel. Chris
Kegel started as a bicycle mechanic just two weeks after it opened. Since
then Chris has worked in every position of the company from sales to
management to cleaning the bathrooms. He eventually became Frank's partner
and in
1989, he bought Frank out and became the sole owner and president. Today
Wheel & Sprocket has five stores throughout the Metro-Milwaukee area.
Industry Associations
Wheel & Sprocket has worked veryhard to forge solid relationships with the
leading manufactures throughout our history. Wheel & Sprocket brought in the
Trek line in our early years with a commitment to make it our #1 brand. This
still remains true and Wheel & Sprocket has been one of Trek's largest
dealers
nationally for over 12 years now.
Team & Sponsorship Affiliations
You name it and we are there. Wheel & Sprocket strongly believes in
supporting the sport of bicycling and skiing. We support ALL of the charity
rides in the
Milwaukee area during the summer. Miller Lite ride for the Arts (Wisconsin's
largest organized bike ride) and Wheel & Sprocket have enjoyed a partnership
for many years.
Wheel & Sprocket proudly sponsors Team FirstStar, the Third Coast Wheelmen,
Covent / Cycle Sport Team, the Alterra Coffee Cycling Team, and the
UWM Cycling Team.
