Has anyone bought one of those new streamlined bags from RANS?

How is is better than the past RANS bag?

Yes

Much more voluminous, much better fit (to my seat configuration on my
V2 anyway), much better looking. In principle, it is more aero,
although whether that makes a quantitatively significant difference is
questionable.

Has no internal or external pockets (except an elastic mesh against
the forward wall to hold the bladder), which might or might not be a
negative. IMO, the old bag had far too many pockets.

I have cheerfully retired my old yellow bag in favor of the new one.

Derek,

How new is the new RANS seatbag ? I bought one last summer when I was
experimenting with optional ways to hook up my waterbladder rather than stick it
in the seatback space. The RANS seatbag is okay in that it can hold more than
the Jandd handlebar bag I normally use but the main reason I bought the RANS
seatbag (waterbladder storage) is not so hot. It has a separate pocket for a
waterbladder but about the max size you can fit in there is a 60 oz waterbladder
and so my Camelbak 100oz doesn't work out so well. I even bought a Platypus
waterbladder to see how it worked out because that waterbladder seems to
configure best for how it sits inside. However, what I like even less than not
being able to put a 100oz bladder in there is that in order to fill the bladder,
it's really not that accessible unless you take the seatbag off the seatback and
take the bladder out each time you ride.

What I wound up doing was going back to my Jandd handlebar bag which I carry on
the rear of the seatback. It stays there all the time and is well constructed
(though has less storage capacity than a full size bag). I then hang Camelbak's
Unbottle (100oz) on the side of it. The Unbottle has a thin support bag around
the bladder in which it only has support loops for attachment purposes. That
works out best for me.

I have photos of my past and present setup, and the reason I went thru all of
these changes, on my website: http://olarryr.homestead.com/home.html
Once at my website, click on the section regarding Hydration. The page that
comes up will eventually load 2 photo thumbnails at the end of the page. Click
on those to see the details.

So, I have a RANS seatbag (2001 model) that has been used maybe a total of 5
times and it's just collecting dust at home. Anyone in Northern VA wants to make
me an offer for it (say $40 which I think is about half the price and pick it
up), I may be willing to part company with it.

Think you must be talking about the previous seat bag, which is still
sold evidently, list price $80 w/o bladder, but rather the newer
"Streamline Tailpack" bag, which sells for $100 w/bladder and is much
more voluminous than the old one. See www.rans.com for descriptions
of both bags.

The "Streamline Tailback" easily holds a 100 oz Camelback bladder.
The bladder that comes with it is smaller, and, I think, inferior.
It's also better to have a bladder where the outlet is at a corner,
rather than in the middle of a short edge.

I would be willing to guess we are not talking about the same bag. This
bag is aerodynamic and should hold a 100oz bladder. I bet you are using
the old one.

I took a look at the RANS Website and I guess you are right - my bag is the old
one. Didn't realize they redesigned it since I bought it last Spring.

Me too. I never liked the way the old yellow bag fit or worked or looked.
The only thing I miss about it is the broad surface for affixing a safety
triangle. I used velcro to put it on. I haven't gotten around to trying to
do the same thing on the new bag, but I kind of think the smaller, rounded
rear surface isn't going to work as well for the triangle.

In all other respects I greatly prefer the new bag.

That's strange. I have a 100oz Platypus that I use in mine and it's a very
good fit. The stock bag is pretty awful though, I wish they'd make it an
option and reduce the price if you don't want it.

I think that are thing is kind of goofy looking. Much prefer the back pack
look of the old yellow bags.
