Hi all,

People often ask me how we chose the name skylab2000.

Despite what some think, the 2000 part of it has nothing to do with the
year - the origins of it are a long story that I'll tell someday. For now
it's a secret. :)

The "skylab" part of our name is easier to explain.

Way back in 1973 the US government launched our first space station. It was
called skylab. Pretty amazing stuff for it's time, but initially it was
plagued with problems.. Communications broke down, a solar panel never
deployed, an stabilizers didn't stabilize. After a shaky start, the station
was amazingly successful and three crews lived aboard over the next few
years.

After 5 years, the station was done being used, and much had been learned.

Now the bad part! It was now about to fall out of it's orbit and the 78 tons
space station was to crash to earth. There was worldwide panic as there was
no predicting where it would fall. All over the world the was "skylab
panic", and worry that it would crash onto a populated area or a major city.

On Tuesday July 11th, 1979 it did crash to earth - 21 years ago today!

Skylab broke apart and hit the ground in an un-populated area of western
Australia. No one was hurt and the panic was unfounded.

If you were born that day, you are old enough to have a drink today, so let'
have a toast to no one being hurt.

You have no fears of skylab2000 crashing into your house today as we will be
safely out of orbit all day.

Anyway, enough history. If you want learn more about skylab, check out:

bio info in here for the folks who don't know about us. If you are familiar
with the band, thanks for reading this far.

BIO:

Acid breaks, funky beats, hard techno and driving trance. That's the sounds
of skylab2000.

Since 1994, skylab2000 has released tracks and performed live at clubs,
raves and parties throughout the US, Europe, Canada and Asia.

Years of touring have earned the band respect in the underground and a
national reputation for incredible live shows. Most weekends you'll find
skylab2000 somewhere in North America playing a party.

Dennis Barton is skylab2000. All writing, production and recording is done
on
a solo basis here in the Los Angeles area. Recent shows often also include a
female vocalist - Curds or Alissa K, while in the past trombonists, didge
players, fire breathers, drummers or other instrumentalists have been a part
of the live show.. A quality live show is very important to the band. No
standing around, looking glum, tweaking knobs.

In addition to being a popular live act, skylab2000 has numerous releases on
vinyl and CD. The seminal domestic 12 inch release, "Auburn", includes
remixes by Gearwhore (Astralwerks) and trance favorite DJ Taylor of
"Anomaly" (Calling Your Name) fame. Multiple remixes of "Auburn", including
versions by top UK producers Sol Brothers and Tomislav, were released by the
UK labels Music Unites/Brainiak and JDJ Productions. There was a huge
reaction to this early recording, including a prestigious listing on Pete
Tong's Essential Selection on London's BBC Radio 1.

skylab2000 tracks now appear on mix CDs by such well known DJs as Thomas
Michael, DJ Grover, Dj Psycho-Bitch (Crobar), John Kelly, Taylor, Sol
Brothers/Andrew Galea (UK) and Superstar DJ Keoki, and mix tapes by many
others.

A 12" single "Rollergirl" and an extended length CD, "DayBreaks", were
released in 1998 on the Canadian/US label Phatt Phunk Records. The 12"
version includes a remix by DJ Thomas Michael.

Last year Phatt Phunk released the next single, "Shak". This progressive
track features a desert trance remix by DJ Doran, known for his amazing sets
at the Dune desert parties.

Numerous skylab2000 releases are planned for 2000, as well a continuing
series of live shows across the US and the world.

Stay tuned.
