Bad News: I Hate This Friggin' War

[What's Up!]

I knew him, know his family. My mom works with his mother at the local
crisis pregnancy and family center. When I was a lector at church, Robbie
was an alter server. Tall and handsome young man. Funeral is supposed to be
so big, that the church in Gettysburg probably won't be big enough to hold
all the mourners. It may be held at the National Shrine Basilica of St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton, which is owned by the Daughters of Charity religious
order. Ironically, the National FEMA headquarters is right next door. I hope
that Phelps and his looney followers from Westboro Baptist don't show up
with their pickets. Never thought it would be so close to home, and happen
to a family I know. Robbie was one of those good kids, the acheivers that
were meant to make a difference in this world.

EMMITSBURG -- A 23-year-old soldier from Emmitsburg died Thursday in
Iraq, his parents said.
U.S. Army 1st Lt. Robert Seidel III was in a Humvee on Thursday when
it was struck by an improvised explosive device about 2:30 p.m., said Sandy
Seidel, his mother. Ms. Seidel said a lieutenant colonel came to her house
in Gettysburg, Pa., on Thursday to inform the family.

Lt. Seidel, a 2000 graduate of Catoctin High School, was a rifle
platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion in the 22nd Infantry Regiment of the
10th Mountain Division, out of Fort Drum, N.Y. He graduated from West Point
in 2004, said his father, Robert Seidel Jr.

Lt. Seidel was also an Army Ranger who was qualified for air assaults.

"He loved his family first and foremost, but he loves God and his
country ... and he died doing that," Mr. Seidel said, choking back tears.

Mr. Seidel said his son liked country music and playing sports like
football, baseball and basketball with his brother Stephen. He was an avid
Boston Red Sox fan.

The Seidels had last spoken with their son on Mother's Day.

"He knew from a young age he wanted to be in the military," Mr. Seidel
said.

Call me a coward if you wish, but many of my poor high school classmates

rich boys are now grandparents and CEOs.

Vietnam is NOT Iraq, nor Afghanistan. There are separate issues
involving all three countries and should be seen as such if you are
willing to give your life.

So before you ask, I am not necessarily a pacifist and I do not hold to
lock-step positions.

Kerry got NO POWs killed, much "many". If that were true we would have
heard about it from the surviving POWs. and we have heard no such
thing.

Same goes for torture, as that pretty much stopped in Sept, 1969.
Kerry's speach was in April, 1971.

If you don't like Kerry, or his politics, fine. But you're either
making this stuff up, or repeating something you read on the internet.

I personally know about 25 former POWs.

Every single one of them would say that your claims are false. Not only
did the torture of POWs cease as of about September, 1969 (Kerry's
speech before Congress was 2 years later), there certainly were NO POWs
killed in captivity in those last few years.

DIA would tell you the same thing.

The office which currently investigates POW/MIA situations in Vietnam
these days, would tell you the same thing.
