This FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Sheet attempts to
answer these frequently asked questions: Where have I heard
that beat before? Where did Mc/Dj/Pop singer get that beat
from? This file catalogs samples and remakes in rap, soul,
and even some pop music.
After reading this file, and please mail me additions
and corrections you can, no matter how small. My E-mail
address is both above and at the end of this FAQ. Please
include the album, complete song title, record label, and
year, if at all possible.
Thank you in advance for any contributions/comments you
send.
Please remember that this list is composed of some
educated guesses on both my and the my contributors parts,
so please excuse any mistakes, and feel free to disagree with
our own opinions.
No samples are included of recent songs sampling other
rappers, singers, etc. They are too obvious and would take up
needless space. However, you will notice that in this FAQ,
when one artist samples part of another, current song, which
was a sample of yet another song, both songs will be listed
under the original. For example, it is most likely
that Alexander O'Neal has sampled Digital Underground, not
Sly Stone. But both "The Humpty Dance" and "Love Makes No
Sense" are found under Sly's "Sing a Simple Song."
This information is solely the property of the author and
all contributors found at the end of this list. However, we
started this list out of a desire to share information, so we
have no problem with anyone copying and distrubuting this FAQ
_as long as the list of contributors is not removed._
