Open (and open-ended) question!

Is rap more legitimate as a(n):
1. Art form?
2. Political-expression outlet?
3. Cultural mirror?

I think as a cultural mirror--this way, it incorperates the other two into it.
Know what I mean? Rap is all three, and probably more, but the other two
headings could fit under cultural mirror.

4. Jeep music?
5. All of the above?

i think rap can simultaneously do all 3 - as p.e., de la soul and
ice t. (amoung others) have done...

and! 6. commercial jingles (watch the saturday morning cartoons for the
cherioos rap - can you handle it?!)

Jeez! A hole blown in my survey thing already!
I just revised it. take #3 out. Question is,

Is rap more valid as a(n):
1. Art form?
2. mode of political expression?

It's vaild as both, but I'd have to say it is more valid as an art form.
There is rap with a political message that I may agree with, that I
will not listen to if I think it sounds crap. Also, I'll listen to raps
with no political message or with one I disagree with if it has a
slammin' beat and some tricky rhymes.
