How come most rap albums don't include lyrics?
P.E. and Ice T have consistently done this with their
albums. Are there any others?

Peace.

Why do you want them? Most rap lyrics are shit--it's the delivery,
IMHO, that really counts. Lyrically, it's more fun to HEAR the rap
than to READ it. I suppose it helps with cryptic stuff, like that
"cagney/fagney" line on PE's "Letter to the NY Post." But I like
deciphering the absurdist rantings of 3rd Bass and De La Soul. Lyric
sheets would spoil it for me.

WRT many other rap artists with crappy lyrics like NWA's, why would
anyone really need to know these things? Their message is so obvious
it's bordering on unartistic.

OOO. that leads me to a new post. I think I'll go do that!

This is happening more and more.

Young MC "Brainstorm" and 3rd Bass "Derelicts of Dialect" both include
lyrics. But their older albums didn't.
"Apocalypse 91" does as well but I can't remember if "Nation" "YO" and
"Fear" did or not...

Many earlier albums of various artists do not include lyrics because the
recording company is trying to limit overhead when taking a chance on a new
artist. After an artist is established, extras like lyric sheets, picture
interior sleeves, special disc labels (CD and vinyl), etc are more likely.
> Rhino Records even has advertisements for other albums on the interior
sleeves.
Just biz.

Of course they did.

i never read the lyric sheets for p.e. or ice t. until the 10th or
so listen...i don't really care for them - how many times have you rewund
the tape/ceedee to hear what q-tip is saying in "what?"!

"Derelicts of Dialect" includes lyrics? There were none on the CD. Maybe the LP
or cass.? I think ICE-T's always put his lyrics down. I wonder why PE censored
the word "bitch" on their lyric sheet for "Burn Hollywood Burn." Did they think
that no one would hear it on the album? That's a pretty weak pro for the
sistas. I haven't seen anyone in the media yet comment on Flav's
"Cagney/fagney" line. You think the anti gay-bashers would have something to
say on that.

Talking about them beeping shit, what's goin' on with the P.E. track
"Get the Fuck out of Dodge" Through the whole damn thing they censor

You can find the UNCENSORED version as a "b-side" on the CD-single
to "I Can' Do Nuttin For ya Man".

I made a PE tape consisting mostly of _Apocalypse_ and replaced
the album version with this one.

Not that I MUST hear profanity. It's just that bleeps suck.
I AGREE.

i'd say it's a statement on censorship... :)
no really.
i mean, the original wasn't censored right?
so i think they're saying "shove it" to the censors by censoring.. :)
ok, funny logic, but it's late.
also, i read (in Time, of all places... i hate that mag, but my roomie
had it and i saw the PE review :)) that they wanted to get away from
the "swearing thing" on this new album.
