The are several reasons to substantiate why the east coast is better.
First, the east coast represents the craddle of hip-hop. Therefore,
east coast artists understand both the root, and orgin of rapp. In
addition, there is more of a spiritual element to east coast rapp
because unlike sorry-ass bandanna-wearin' jherri-curled, ignorant-ass
west coast rappers, east coast implements jazz music. For example,
listin to Gang Starr. This gives it more of a nastalgic quality.
West-caost also glorifies black-on-black killings moreso than east
coast. These are just a few reasons why the east remains superior.

This shit is totally wrong!!! and is the reason there is a beef in the
first place. niggas in the east like to pop that shit then jump on the
band wagon cause they cant sell any units outside of the east. niggas in
the east think the world revolves around the east coast, and in reality,
yall are in the minority.
I can understand that yall get into jazz, cause harlem is in new york, etc.
but, dont dis someone else becasue they like something else. I'm from
the south, and i guarantee the way to end a party is to put on an

To tell the truth, east coast rap is better. That is where ALL of the skills lie. The
problem is that everyone, including the people that make the records, has forgotten
this. Everything that you hear now is based on selling drugs, spending way too much
money on stupid shit, and dropping names of designer fashion stuff. That's weak. I
can't think of anyone, with maybe the ecxeptions of the Beatnuts, Mad Skillz, and Tribe,

so on. The problem is that no-one has there own style anymore. You might as well thank

the truth, Rakim has not made a record in years (except for that sorry bootleg that I
picked up last month), and no one is better than him still. The quality of the whole
product has declined. The only thing saving us on the east is groups like Tribe, Gang
Starr, Lord Finesse, Akinyele, Large professor, and a whole bunch of others that you
don't hear. As for that kid in the south talking about killing parties . . .C'mon
player, you probably haven't heard anything new since Kurtis Blow was making records.
I can't remember the last time that D.J. Mark's 900 number killed a party, or Showbiz
and A.G., or Dougie Fresh, or any D.J. killing Peter Piper. Your problem is that you're
still waiting for the Showboys to come out with another version of "Drag Rap".

Which coast is best depends on the time. Eg in the early 1990s West was best with the
new sounds of NWA then Dre and then other Death Row artists. Now in the mid 1990s the
East coast has the better, more interesting sounds. Really what i'm trying to say is
that the best coast depends on who takes rap to the next level and gives rap fans
something new (eg alot of the Death Row stuff is becoming repetetive and boring).
Anyone agree or disagree?

I am not pickin' sides but rap started on the East coast, read strength magazine, in vol.
#3 it shows the whole history of rap muzik.
Ice Cube himself, the king of the 'west says that "Hip-Hop started in the West" not rap.
It really doesn't matter. Listen to Too $hort, he raps with some east coast rappers and
says that he is trying to "squash this east coast shit." Like Dr. Dre said in VIBE
magazine, "Anyone that claims west coast shit has nothing better to rap about." Look at
2-pac, I think he sucks.
Also rap has transferred its main locations. It started on the East, in NY with Grand
Master Flash and earlier. It moved throughout the country and found it's way to the West
coast, in which along the way it varied. Eventually it became know more to the black
youths on the West coast and to "gangsters and pimps." As always muzik carried a message
and now stronger than ever. Look at Grand Master Flash's hit. Slowly it turned into
"Gangster Rap" on the West coast and then "hip hop" or "G-Funk." But look who is big now,
L. L. Cool J in Ny and Fugees in NJ.
What separates the to is that West Coast mainly is influenced by "Funk" and R&B and the
East Coast is based in "Jazz" and somewhat "Tribal Sounds." You "roll" with West Coast rap
on and drive faster and on the hi-way with East Coast rap playing.
