Last night, Dr. Dre's brainchild, the Up In Smoke tour, made it's stop in
beautiful Vancouver, BC. Although a number of the rappers originally with
the tour either had other commitments or didn't want to deal with the
border crossing, the show was, in a word, incredible. It took place in GM
Place, the home of the Canucks and Grizzlies... I've never seen a cloud of
smoke settle at the roof of a stadium like this before.
The doors opened at 7, and a comic (his name escapes me) was on stage
telling jokes... which were actually quite funny! Many of them were
specific to Vancouver and Canada, which I thought was cool. My favorite
was, "Where THE FUCK is the weed at? I mean, I bought a damn $20-bag off
some guy on the street, and he charged me tax! It came to $21.36!!!"
Funny, funny shit.
Finally, around 7:20, TQ and Warren G came on stage, and played a solid
half-hour set. Warren ended with Regulate, which generated relatively
loud applause and cheering, although at this point the Garage was only
about half full.
The comic comes back on, and stalls for about 10 minutes. Then,
everything goes black, and on comes His Whiteness himeslf, Marshall
Mathers. He began with "Kill You", followed with "Dead Wrong", then a
medly of five or six of his songs from both Infinite and Slim Shady LP.
The 90%-full crowd was rockin crazy-like. Part way through, after rapping
"Marshall Mathers" from his latest CD, he spoke on ICP, saying how he has
squashed the beef, and ICP was actually on tour with them and backstage!
So, out comes three stage-hands, each carrying one female blow up doll,
which Em then threw out onto the thick mass of hands raised in the air.
One of the funniest moments of the show was after he sang his played-out
hit "Real Slim Shady", he said, "None of you actually like that fuckin
song, do you? Listen, I was just playin with that song, that ain't the
real me. Fuck, don't listen to that shit anymore, aight?" That cracked
me THA FUCK UP! After a little under a full hour's set (about 55 minutes),
he closed with many fireworks and pyros.
Comic back on. After nearly half an hour, with the capacity crowd (14500
strong) chanting "We want Dre!! We Want Snoop!!!", the lights went out,
and a movie was shown on screen. The 10 minute piece involved Dre and
Snoop bustin some slugs into some grocery store workers... it was fucked
up, some ish you just gotta see for yourself, my explaining it won't do
it justice. Out came Dre and Snoop. They played some old stuff (Gin &
Juice, What's My Name, Deep Cover), new stuff (Still D.R.E., Forget About
Dre) and some unrelesased stuff (off of Snoop's new album Tha Last Meal, I
forget the song names, one was the one about weed, track 9 I think).
Xzibit came out for a bit, so did Kurupt and Devin. After over an hour
(about 1h10) and a shitload of set changes, pyro's and fireworks, they
left the stage, and the huge crowd slowly dispersed, without a single
disappointed head in the crowd.
All in all, it was a fuckin crazy show. I've seen small hip-hop concerts
(including DJ Honda, The Luniz, Rascalz & more), medium concerts (Wesside
Connection, Nas, Mobb Deep) and big ass ones (Hard Knock Life, Summer
Jam). Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this was the best one. The sets were
fuckin crazy (Eminem had two big ass middle fingers sandwiching the stage,
Dre & Snoop had bud leaves and skulls, among other shit), as were the
props (Xzibit rode out on a sweet motorbike, and of course Snoop & Dre
brought out the lowrider, and hit switches to the beat). There was crazy
ass pyro from which you could feel the heat in every seat, as well as cool
fireworks and lighting effects. The sound system was solid, not the
loudest I've heard, but there was little to no distortion, so I'd say it
was the best I've experienced.
This concert has made me realize that Eminem has even more talent than I
had credited him with- he did a minute long "freestyle" (an M&M freestyle
is usually some memorized rhymes with filler words inserted, though) and
snoop and Dre sure know how to deliver a knockout punch.
If UIS is coming to your city- take my advice: GO!!!!!

Actaully, that's not what he said. Slim started to do "My Name is..."
and then he cut that and spoke on how stupid the tune was. Then he he
later went into the better introduction tune "Real Slim Shadey". Slim
was dissin' his first Lp not the new one.

They recreated the openning scene from Menice II Society. They didn't
bust any caps into the grocery store keeper. They smoked the dudes who
shot the grocery storekeeper.

Snoops never preformed anything off his "Last Meal" disc.

He did stuff off his new disc and then did "Bitch Please" with snoops.

Kurupt wasn't there.

Best,

TypeDef, I have a serious request, can you stop using that on a daily basis?
Everytime I see it it confuses me (yes, dipshit was a nickname of mine) and I
always read the whole post to see what your responding to. It's starting to
become a waste of time, can you PLEASE think up a different insult?
yes, I am the king dipshit,

Wow, you know what I've just realized here? I remember sitting and watching the
beef Typedef had with everyone and I've just realized something. I mean, he
dosn't really say too much... but when he does say something to you... it
really annoys you very quickly... congradulations TypeDef, now I realize why
people had beef with you. I aint got no beef, I'm just pointing out that just
by little things you say you have a way at annoying people...
ah fuck it, I don't know what I meant to say when I started,
