I've never heard of Anticon outside of the internet, so my question is: How
the fuck do you pronounce it? Or is it one of those words that, since no one
actually says it in real life, doesn't have an actual pronounciation? Kinda
like what Prince changed his name to at one point?

In any case, how do YOU pronounce it when you see it written? AN-tee-con?
An-TEE-con? AN-ti-con? An-TI-con?

Get at me,

I haven't heard anything, either... but I like some of Sage's stuff.

I too believe it's
> >AN-ti-con.

They use ants as some type of symbol, if that's any lead
as to how you pronounciate it.

I actually plan to go see them live tomorrow or the day after
tomorrow (out of some perverse curiostiy). If they make the
crowd chant their name I might be able to clear this up.

> My mentality is "what, kid?"

Hm... Are you sure this is what he says?
I always thought it was basically the sentence
'What's my mentality, kid?' turned upside down.
A "what, kid?" mentality somehow seems not
edgy enough in the context of "13 years in the projects,
my mentality is what, kid." (OHHLA version)
Then again the "What, kid" mentality could refer to
the next line: "You talk a good one but you don't want it."
The situation then would be that Hav addresses someone
who 'talks a good one' with a truncated version of
"What do you want?"
Am I making any sense? Guess not. But neither
does your quote. Explain please.

Matt, that line makes sense. It's like my mentality is 'whatever'. Whatever
you want to do, however you want to do it, we can do it. It's an attitude in
the sense that I don't care who you are or what you are you still aren't
shit to me. So, WHAT! Bring it if you are going to bring it or shut the fuck
up. That line says a lot in one simple direct statement. I could type a
whole lot more but it's scarying me that I can see the depth in that
statement like this. It's a wisdom that comes with 5 am.

A "what, kid?" mentality is about as edgy as edgy could get. It means that as
much dirt people throw on your name, as much shit you get, you just don't give
a fuck. "WHAT, kid?" It makes perfect sense in the context of the line. "13
years in the projects" will give you that attitude.

My mentality is "what, kid?"

You and Timid are probably right. I know the English language is fucking
with me here, but I STILL think, he just turns "What's my mentality, kid?"
upside down. I guess I'll slowly have to get used to another interpretation.

You can pronounce it:

An-ti-con
An-tie-con

also, Sole has explained in verse that it can also mean Ant - Icon.

I don't believe nobody here has heard of Anticon!?!?

What about Atmosphere? Aesop Rock? Binary Star? Buck 65? Def Jux?? Illogic?
Lexicon? Qwel? Quasimoto?

Hell Mars Ill are some dope Christian rappers that, more than likely, the
majority of people on here have'nt even heard of.

Come on people, widen your "Sphere of Hiphop"

Anti - As in Anti

Con - As in (Con)artist

Check out some Dose One or Sole stuff, the rest aren't exactly rappers(Passage,
Pedestrian,) or aren't very good (Alias, Why?) But if you like lay'd back
layered beats with a jazzy feel, mixed with electronica, sometimes boom bapish
drums and poetic verses, you might feel this.

Don't speak for all us money... There's a record shop downtown which should get
paid for being anticon promoters, because they have posters up, pass out
stickers, and have anticon displays as well as anticon music playing almost
everytime I go in there. And they're also the reason I like anticon, because I
DID hear from them first on the internet, and downloaded a few of their mp3s
and did not like what i heard at all. But they were selling the "Giga single"
(A single with 16 tracks,) for $4.99 and I bought it and actually started
liking what I was hearing. They are a weird record shop though, because they
sell Punk, Underground hip hop, and Reggae and that's about it (Living in a
college town might explain that.)

But yeah
