Anyway, chances are that the music you listen to probably has been
influenced or created by blacks. Blacks have helped make bounds in
medicine and biology, their also responsible for some of the most
beautiful cultures on Earth. To assume that any race is superior to

form, have contributed to the advancement of the human race.

You must have missed the days in school where they talked about the
holocaust, Pol Pot, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, huh?
I advise you to do a little homework yourself. Before white
colinization, and severe draughts, Africa was just as advanced as
places like Europe and the middle east, similarly, racism was not an
issue at that point. Just like Nationalism, racial pride and it's
flipside racism, are fairly new concepts. The problem with blacks in
America is that complacency fueled by black anger and white guilt
permiates their communities. You'd be amazed how human psychology
works.
There are places beyond your neighborhood, you know. In places like
Portugal and Brazil, blacks and whites have been able to integrate
extremely well.

Now, the really shocking news...As per the last census, blacks make up
only 12.7% of the total U.S. population.
There is definitely something amiss with your thinking if you can
continue to make excuses for any minority group that continues to
produce this many criminals from within it's self. Everywhere they are
shunned and despised, and for good reason. And you think they are still
worth trusting over the long haul??

killed more people than ANY other race of people; kinda ironic when

He does make valid statistical points about the number of crimes that
are committed by blacks and whites; c'mon Melvin, the amount of people
killed by white serial killers as opposed to black thugs is wildly
disproportionate. He, however fails to address the cultural roots of
this, and in his ignorance turns it into a solely racial issue while
ignoring the fact that every race has a checkered history.

I wouldn't *completely* write off what this guy says so much as I
would write off how he says it, why he says it, and how he readily
boils real facts, misinformation, and plain ignorance into his messy
arguments. The valid point, however, that he is addressing is that,
yes, there are more violent crimes committed by blacks today in
America, which tend to instill a sense of fear of blacks in many
(maybe even most) whites, but his overall assessment and
generalizations of why this is are absurd.

occurring by the opposite race is greatly reduced.
But with numbers like the current ones (you know... THE ONES YOU
CONSTANTLY SKIRT ADDRESSING AT ALL COST),....."white murderers per
100,000=5.5....black murderers per 100,000=44.7".... coupled with the
fact that both race's murder totals are running at about 9,000 each
yearly, it's only too obvious to see what the future holds when their
12.7% of the population reaches 50%.
To put this into today's perspective, white murder rates would have
to sky-rocket from around 9,000 yearly to well over 56,000 to match
their black counter-parts. Think of it, Melvin. What kind of a country
would we be living in right now if whites murdered anywhere near the
black rate! And that's just murder. That is just the tip of the iceberg.
The real danger lies in the numbers of the other violent crimes I
mentioned earlier. This, by the way, is why there is a disproportionate
number of blacks in prison. Not because the man has it in for
them....Let's see the truth here....It's because they commit a
disproportionate number of crimes.

I don't know if his stats are accurate in this regard, but remember
that blacks make up 20% of the population. That particular stat
doesn't mean 72% of the crimes committed against whites were by
blacks.
He's clumsily trying integrate that into his argument, without
discussing the other variables of that particular statistic. In other
words, say there are 100 eskimos that live in California, five of them
happen to commit crimes. Chances are they are going to eventually
commit a crime against whites since there are simply more whites than
eskimos. So the stat might say "99% of all crimes committed by
eskimos were against whites". It's the law of probability.

Your social analysis means absolutely nothing since you have no idea
in the psychology underlying the problem. Yes, blacks often do feel
inferior, however, the general tendency in African American culture is
to discourage excellence. In other words; it's a learned trait. Now
anyone who knows anything about psychology will know about Milgrams
test which showed that a group mentallity will override a person's
conscious, no matter how terrible that mentallity is. You can see
this example all over the world. For example, most Germans during
1935-1945 were not predispositioned to hate or to murder, however, the
persecution of Jews was carried out by normal everyday people. These
people did it out of fear of being ostricized. If you're a black kid
living in a black neighborhood, a whole lot of people, and a whole lot
of circumstances are going to discourage you from doing what is in

government can't get out. Generations of people have been raised under

country's in...Those who were in political power or those who demanded
change at the point of a fire-bomb?
Did you know that since this started in 1962, that the taxpayer (that's

You have been watching way too much television. So do you feel the
same way about airplanes as you do white schools; your first step in
there might be one of of your last? Well, just as with airplanes,
thousands of prodiminantly white schools conduct things everyday with
relatively few problems. Think about it, dimwit. It's not news until
it is something that is out of the ordinary.

issue does not deal exclussively with european, african, asian, or latin
individuals. This is a human issue. The fact that the Columbine shooting
took
place is a tragic reality, but c'mon people have been getting murdered since
the beginning of time. Some murder their father and rape their mother. Some
murder their sisters and brothers for a parents affection. Some murder for
sheer enjoyment. The Columbine boys were in anguish and decided to let
go of their humanity. They cannot be considered human. Their act was
animalistic. They are animals.
The media tries to make us see otherwise. They try to make us sympathize
with these animals. Yet, they draw much attention to and judgement to
blacks that kill. It is wrong to sympathize with either of them. You must
understand that we all are killers. I have a recommendation for anyone who
is interested:

Listen to what I am about to say. Rap is one of the primary components of
hip hop. Within this component system there is breakdancing(which is related
to brasilian capoeira), DJing (related to 70's disco), and graffing (the
visual art component). If looked at closely you will see that hip hop
is a culture that being developed rather quickly. There is only one problem
though. Hip Hop was developed in America and america is founded on the
capitalist system. As we all know, any culture that is revealed as being
lucrative or marketable will be exploited by this system. TRUE hip hop
was about the togetherness and joy that people can experience. Hip hop was
all about reaching the summit of that joy. Disco started it, but it was hip
hop's purpose to finish it. Sadly, hip hop had become highly commercialized
in its infancy. Hip hop soon grew into mirror image of the american values
that it resented, since many of its originators were in poverty. Anyway, hip
hop as it was known in its beginnings has died. You can argue with me if you
want, but it is a fact.
Two factions were created within the hip hop reality of the world: the
artists and the mass producers. The artists are a breed of rappers that use
artistic sensibilities while creating works. They fully understand the
negative ramifications that could come to pass if their work was
misunderstood. These artists, having this knowlegde, strive to produce work
that lends
itself to the positive aspects of the human nature. Though their work is
the strengthening of higher human nature, it does not sale very well. Also,
the commercial system serves to undermine the progress of any work like
this that is of real value to the discovery of being human.
Now, we have the mass producer, who creates work strictly for profit. They
can care less whether their work is enlightening or degrading. They are
happy as long as they gain money for their label and themselves. Their only
goal is money. Their God is money. In reality they are capitalists. Mass
Producers are the bane of hip hop yet many people blindly view them as
representatives of hip hop culture. Many of the mcees that receive much
airplay on the radio fit this description. The way to fight this is to not
pick up the album. Actually, I wouldn't call mass producers rappers. I call
them
pop artists, because they stick to the issues that are familiar and popular.
They never raise the bar of intellect in hip hop. They lower it.
Hip hop was never meant to be a source of consciousness or rage. It was
created to be an escape. All humans want to escape themselves at some point
in time. Think. Aren't you sometimes fearful of the true freedom that
you posess as a human being. Remember, the artform developed within
the impoverished class of america. They wanted to escape reality. They
wanted to reform their reality through visual, audible, and dynamic objects.
In human history, the greatest art has come from those in anguish. Hip Hop
has a long way to go before it reaches the level of a "genuine" artform such
as baroque music, impressionist painting, and ballet. Hip hop has to heal
from its exploitation. On a good note, there is hope. The marriage of hip
hop
to its parent genre of disco has created a new genre
called.............Electronica. Though much of the sound experimentation in
this artform is borrowed directly from the early german 20th century
composers such as Stockhausen, hip hop has influenced it's sound completely.
There are Goa, House, Techno, Trance, and Jungle styles that have been
created. But, as you may have guessed, commercialism has tainted this flower

I don't know if anyone "enjoys" killing themselves so much as some
sort of internal or external pressure drives people to believe that
they have no other choice.

I didn't see the media sympathizing with these people at all. Quite
the opposite, when you consider the fact that after the Columbine
shootings, the media went on to portray all "freaks" and "goths" as
murderers, and implicitly portrayed preps and jocks as heroes.

I'm not sure if Social Darwinism has anything to do with this. People
have used "social Darwinism" to justify murder, unregulated
capitalism, and supression in general by those who are in power.

I haven't seen much in the way of an interesting "culture" developing
in hip hop. Whereas rock "culture" had changed tremendously in it's
first twenty years, hip hop has developed little in comparison.

Realize though that the negative aspects in rap were inherent in it
from it's inception, not created by a committee at the top of the
Rockefeller building. It's these aspects that have been pushed to the
fore by the people who market the stuff.
I partially agree; rap exists also because of an impoverished
American educational system which is even more impoverished in poor
neighbourhoods. I don't mean to belittle the work of many rappers who
see rap as their "artform" but lets be honest; rap for the most part
is musically simplistic, and has came of age in an era where music and
art programs are being eliminated from schools at an alarming rate.

It never will; those are genres of art unto themselves based on
aesthetic principals, not some prescriped form or template. Rap is a
subgenre of American pop, and IM not so HO has not demonstrated a
capacity to escape beyond it's formal confines.

can't perceive of the half of hip hop that innovates. Because to you, that
group doesn't exist. To be is to be perceived and the media acts as the
regulator of our perceptions. If the media dosn't expose it, it doesn't

I think you overestimate my reliability on media sources. I've heard
a lot of different types of rap, underground, and mainstream. Being a
musician and a music student, I realized a long time ago that
mainstream media is not the source to get information about ANY music.

Enfuriating you is not my goal. Mygoal is to make you take a deeper
look at yourself and your world. I believe that you are a very very
smart and versed individual, but knowledge can can only be real
when one comes to the understanding of themselves. Otherwise,
you'll be spouting some stuff that you were taught or that you
overheard. Think of how you would when you find out that your
thoughts are not truly yours. I'd be disgusted and horrified.
You may not think that you a influenced by the media, but in all
cases, you are. Any social contact that you make carries ideas from
the media. Any book that you read whether it be an encyclopedia,
newspaper, magazine, novel, or underground newsletter may be
engineered to spread an "underlying" agenda. There is no escape
from another's agenda. Especially when theat person has power over
what you hear and perceive. These agendas are like sound. You can deny listening
to the sound all you want to, but you can never not hear it.
When you come to the realization that nothing has real unbiased knowledge
attached to it, you will be better off. But, as I said earlier, I think you have
done this.

I am a guitarist well versed in many forms of music. I can play
everything from classical, to jazz, to rock, to ragtime; half of what
I know wasn't even written for guitar. I'm not a virtuoso, and I'll
probably never win a place in the record books, but I know exactly
what I'm doing, and what I'm talking about, and if I don't, I know
when to keep my mouth shut. The only way one becomes a proficient
musician is by LISTENING to music objectively, not by guessing about
it, or recieving second hand information about it. There are two ways
I listen to music...first I listen to it from a technical
perspective;, and if the music happens to be appealing to me, I listen
to it from an emotional perspective. Most people do not have the
capicity to listen to music beyond the emotional perspective, and
therefore if the music is not of their tastes, they will regard it as
crap, I however, am not most people. Rap does not appeal to me on a
technical or emotional level. It's theoretically possible that
there's gotta be some rap that rises above the standard mediocrity and
simplicity that is rap's feature characteristic, but I have not heard
it, even from the artists who have been lauded as the "great white
hopes" (pardon the expression), and speaking as a former rap fan, I've
heard an awful lot.

Which is another example of what makes us different. *You* may be
unduly influenced by the media's "underlying agendas", but I have the
ability to sort out what is worth believing and what is fabricated.
Since I am two steps ahead of you, I realize that all media sources,
since they are produced by humans who each have different
perspectives, are going to have different spins, that is why I, as a
wise consumer of information, use several different sources to come to
a balanced conclusion.

hip hop, rock, jazz, or any pop music form. This post is about
life. You are right RAP does suck, but so do all of the other
forms of popular music out there. I feel that many of you that
post on this site are like middle school boys that jack of
behind the closet door or the e-mail alias in this case.
We are all lost. A thirteen year old kid has posted about how
he counted his classmates to see who liked rap and who was
prep. Another post was an insulting hip hop parody(rapper
trying to be heard). We are all lost within our own ignorance
and confusion. It is this confusion that caused Columbine and
it is this confusion that caused the Holocaust tragedy. I realize
now that only a select few can operate without the blinders on.
Many others cannot. True self reflection is the only way to stop
this madness. Can you not see what is happening here?
I'm not some deep philosopher. I don't think that you should
subscribe to any of the things I say unless you truly feel that
they are valid. The only thing that I want people to do is
question themselves and expose the impulses and desires that
they thought were theirs. I want you all to understand RAP not
as an outlet for your anger, but as a building block to understand
what it means to be a human being........what it means to be real.
It has become painfully obvious to me that this newsgroup is
doomed mediocrity and the posting of opinionated garbage.

Or you don't realize what I've been saying all along. Most people do
not care. They scroll down through their NG selection box and they
see one that says "alt.rap.sucks" and they say to themselves "boy,
this sure looks like a good NG I can post something stupid on when I'm
bored". There is no cosmic significance to this as you'd like to
believe. For most of these people, rap generally doesn't register as
a burning issue.

I think rap is a boring, formally confined genre. The only way that
my life would be any different if rap were not around is that I
wouldn't have this NG to post in, and waste my time replying to

How the fuck do you cite an opinion?
I can go over a few examples of rap and rap artists, and cite
specifically what I don't like, but if you think there is any way that
you can try to quantify the inquantifiable, then you have truly missed
the point of what music is all about. For those of us who don't see
God everytime we use a urinal, this is pretty obvious and doesn't need
discussion.

Most of my replies to your posts were hard facts. Your posts were
filled with ramblings of how "dangerous" white schools are, when there
have been about five or six school shootings in the last year out of
ten of THOUSANDS of white schools. Clearly the case of someone who's
been mediated. The fact of the matter is that black crime is much
higher than whites. That isn't a "sentiment" it's a fact, and if you

WELL, you are not refering to specific dates, times, subjects, or
people. So Mr. Commonsense, wouldn't it be "common sense" to know

are not going to go out of their way to look for something if they

pertained to me at least somewhat. See, "common sense" dictates that
if you call someone's name or mention it, you'll get their attention.
