Does anybody know when & if UP will be posting train service positions
in Northern California this year?

Any info about their current staffing needs/plans would be appreciated.

It is unlikely that they will be hiring for Train Service in California or
Texas anytime soon as they currently have over 2000 people laid off in those
areas.

I think the proper URL is www.rrb.gov, not www.rrb.org.

Thanks - this seems to be the truth of the matter. Interesting how UP has many
on layoff & BNSF is still hiring throughout the West...

Others - thanks for the links... I should have mentioned that I live at those
sites...

Is that all train service, or does that number include other crafts?

And Smitty replies:

Probably a variety of crafts, not just TE&Y. Figure that in the next
ten years they will have to do a lot of hiring because there will be
many retirements. There will be even more if the 60/30 proposed
ratification of retirement goes through. Just make sure this is what
you want to do for a living, because it's not just a job, it's a
lifestyle.

FWIW CSX is hiring if you want to come east. Train service mostly. All hired as
brakie/conductor will promote to Engineer eventually. Check website
www.csxt.com for details of the who and where.

You can have my engineer job out of Atlanta...I'm trying to go to BNSF
in ND...sick and tired of traffic, unfriendly people, and lazy asses
that mark off in front of you at a drop of a hat. Don't get me wrong, I
don't mind working, but when there are 8 assigned to the board and only
two that are not marked off sick, it gets old real quick.
