Last month, FOX 29 reported that the SEPTA Inspector General's Office
was investigating the theft of copper wire from a north Philadelphia
PA
maintenance yard. Now, there's been an arrest.

The arrest was made early Wednesday morning at the Wayne Electric Car
Shop in north Philadelphia, a SEPTA maintenance yard.

A SEPTA spokesperson said an employee at the yard, who he declined to
identify, was arrested by detectives with the Inspector General's
Office following an investigation that started in January.

The employee was charged with allegedly stealing $11,000 worth of
copper wire from the Liberty Maintenance Yard in north Philly.

The employee is a so-called "overhead maintainer" who worked on SEPTA
electrical lines and had access to the Liberty Yard.

SEPTA wouldn't say what wire was allegedly stolen, but a source has
told FOX Undercover that the copper was from large spools stored at
in a cage at the yard.

The source said the copper was stolen at night and later sold to
local scrap yards.

The SEPTA spokesperson said the employee was brought to the 35th
Police District for processing and was charged with theft, criminal
conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

The spokesperson added that the Inspector General's Office was
investigating another employee as a possible accomplice.
