Saw some bright blue power marked LMSX in Toronto this morning. Can't
seem to find this acronym in my trackside guide; -mind you, it is last
years edition. Is this a new company? Thanx in advance.

Not new. It is Locomotive Management Systems. A former leasing department of
Conrail and now of CSX, and possibly NS is involved as well.

LMS is a "power by the hour" leasing firm, associated with GE, the
same way Oakway is associated with GM. They first leased a group of
gray painted B39-8s to BN. The Conrail units (I think they're 6 axle
engines) are the only other group of locomotives they have, I believe.

You're mixing up two different companies. LMX (note the initials) is
the leasing company that was GE's counterpart to Oakway. It was set up
to handle the lease and maintenance of those gray locomotives on BN.

LMS (Locomotive Management Services) is a separate company, and was set
up as a joint venture between GE and Conrail to build locomotives for
general lease to other railroads. Forty C40-8 locomotives are still in
the fleet, and Conrail's interest in the venture has now been split
between CSX and NS.

Yeah, that would make sense James. The power still wore the bright blue
of Conrail. Since I have yet to get my slides back, I wasn't sure if
they were C40's or 44's.
