Is this the worst radio station in Scotland? Is it the best? The music
policy, DJs are they good or bad?
Lets hear what you think of Q96.

I don't know much more apart from their website is at:
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/9419/
although they haven't updated it since Autumn '98.
They are sister stations with Scot FM as well. They have pretty big
studios (I saw them) and always give you lots of goodies (ie. I got 2
T-Shirts and about 20 balloons, but then they were all out because of
a roadshow).
That's about all I know.
My favourite presenters are George and Big Ped.
Anybody know anything about CFM (Carlisle)?
From Craig
My local radio station! Very popular in the area with some very good
RAJAR figures. Sort of owned by Border Radio Holdings (although not soley,
as I think SRH have some influence), even though their HQ is in Border
Tv's car park.
Programming wise they do play a good variety of music. Although I feel
it has gone down the hill a bit recently presenter wise... John Myres who
launched the station and the breakfast show before moving on to Century,
and his replacement Simon Grundy (now at Sun FM) have moved on and have
been replaced by less than adequate presenters. We now have Charlie
Thompson a guy with a deep southern accent doing a breakfast show in
Cumbria. The two frequencies in West Cumbria have a seperate breakfast
show and different advert breaks (CFM got the West licence about 3 years
after the Carlisle one). Ken White (ex Hospital Radio in Carlisle) does
the breakfast show for the West, although it's actually broadcast from the
other studio in Carlisle.
Other presenters include:
10am-2pm: Dave Campbell (local lad, I think!)
2pm-6pm: Dave Collins (ex- The Bay, Radio City, Red Rose)
6pm-10pm: Andy Noax (ex- Signal Radio)
10pm-2am: Judith Hurl (Irish woman who used to do Channel 4 continuity
announcement I think)
2am-6am : Pete Moss (real name Peter White, and Ken White's son)
Other presenters include Martin Kelly, Mike Charlton, Lindsey Kerr, and
Simon Monk (who is the Programme Controller).
Presenters who have been on CFM since its launch include.... Paul Evans,
Andy Hoyle, Derek Flood, Alex Roland, Dave Croft, John Oley, Shaun Tilley,
Ricky D, Alison Bayne, Tony Newman etc etc..

Alex, it must be about 8 years since I've seen him. Know where he is now?

Went from CFM to Programme Controller at Mercia FM, then at Southern FM
for a short while... now at Fosseway Radio in Leicstershire, I think!

There strap line has changed now to "the best music QFM".It's actually not
too bad, in fact sounds better that the Scot FM station and probably has
more listeners in the West of Scotland than Scot FM. If I was in charge I'd
probably get it sounding like Londons Heart 106.2.

I understood it was growing it's audience faster than any other
station in the area (although I haven't checked the figures to confirm that)

I think he is at Fosseway Radio in Leicester. Or at least, that's what
Media UK says (I sure am glad Media UK exists!)

Actually, I don't think he is. In some older websites, QFM is called
Q96. In the Scotsman newspaper it had QFM as Q96 on 96.0 - 96.3, but
it also has Moray Firth on 99.4! I did write and tell them but they
don't seem to have done anything about it.
I don't know why it is called Q96 - perhaps it used to be called that
then they changes to QFM, or maybe it's because of Q103. Anybody know?
Craig.

In 1992 Paisley Local Radio and Media Services Ltd won the licence to
broadcast to Paisley. The then board decided that the very parochial
name would deter listeners from outside of the town, the tsa included
approximatly 5000000 potential listeners who did not live in Paisley.
A name which did not locate was required hence the Q96, otheres have
followed since INCLUDING Q103.
If I could remember where my web page is, I am sure that there is a
photo of the original Studios on it.

Alex.

They are presenter led.

It's automated by night, but it has some (very good) presenters during
the day!
