You're so right about Jeff Levy. It used to be like water torture listening to
him, so I don't anymore.

He especially turned me off when he used to tell his deceased mother how much
he missed her at the beginning of the program, and would then talk about how he
and his dad just took advantage of this or that freebie. How embarrassing.

The computer guys on KABC are a little more sophisticated, but they're not all
that happening either. Oh, well.

What do you expect from a lawyer turned computer salesman turned radio
talk host? If you want to listen to someone currently in the computer
biz as a tech and owner of a successful computer business, check Larry
Piland on KFMB, AM-760 in San Diego. He's on real audio at
http://www.760kfmb.com/personalities/larry.html

Or, also on Real Audio, check out Gina Smith on her show, "Connected
With Gina Smith." She used to do a show from the west coast that was
really first class. But ABC called her to New York to be network
correspondent for computer related stories. Fortunately though she
still does a show on Real Audio Saturdays from 10:06am to 1pm EST.
That's 7:06AM Pacific Time. The show is at
http://www.abcgina.com/

Between them, and the new KABC show (Sat 10AM-1PM) , and the Earthlink
Internet Hour on KLSX(Sun noon till 2PM) , and Digital Village on KPFK
(Sat 10AM-11AM), there are plenty of alternatives.

And another to check out on Real Audio is Tech Talk at
www.ttalk.com
This page offers a collection of computer related talk shows from
around the English speaking world. They're less formal with no
commercials. Some are call in and some are commentary.

I'd wondered what happened to Gina. I, too, used to listen to her show and
watch her on GMA. She was great.

Tech Talk sounds interesting, too. Thanks for all the suggestions.

You should check out the Komando Show. Its the BEST! On more than 300 stations.

Airs on KLSX 97.1 FM, Saturdays 7 am to 10 am. Hosted by Kim Komando, Computer
Edito Pop Mechanics, a TV host, and syndicated columnist and a babe to boot
(www.komando.com)

By the way, ABC cancelled the Gina show this week, lack of ratings and
affiliates.

Caller: I was wondering how to set my IRQ to 4 on my modem.

Jeff Levy: Well I'm going to have to look that up for you and we'll take your
number and call you back... You know folks we like to inform the entire listening
public on all the intricacies of the computer but I don't want to bore you with
such a trivial question.

who has little knowledge of computers.

That wouldn't surprise me if the new show didn't get off the ground.
I'm usually unable to listen Saturday mornings due to other
commitments. But the show she used to do out of KMPC and KSFO was a
winner. Then she was called to New York. I had a feeling things would
never be the same. Let's face it, the West Coast is the home of
personal computer culture. You just can't do a computer show from west
of the Colorado. It just doesn't feel right. It's like broadcasting a
rock music show from Baghdad, Iraq. I hope Gina does well in New York
but if she ever leaves, I hope she returns to California and picks up
some kind of computer show - preferably on TV since she is such a
babe.

I've listened to the Kim Komando and just get tired of all the canned
applause, ooohs and aaaahs and other corney sound effects. The content
is OK, and she does know her stuff, but I prefer local broadcasts over
the syndicated shows. The local shows seem to take more time per
caller. Both Kim and Jeff seem to just spit out some blanket answer
and then cut the caller off to make room for the massive quantities of
commercials that plague nationally syndicated shows.
