I too have the same question. I hope someone that knows the truth
will answer.

Personally I think he got canned because of his possible low ratings.
Going by what Spensor kept saying on the air, he was struggling with
commercials and ads. He would always be surprised when he didn't have
any commercials to do for 30 minutes. Again, this is just my guess
only, and nothing more.

Personally, I think Spensor needs to grow up a little. I got really
tired of his constant whinning and complaining about trivial things
that don't matter. Like one time he went off about the way people
dress at Costco. I was thinking, WHO CARES? Sometimes he got
downright negative about things and people get tired of hearing people
whinning about nothing.

Two things I don't like about Spencer:

#1. I'm sick of hearing him constantly refering to San Fransicsco as
"San FranSICKO". Its one of the most beautiful citys of the world.
He would never be able to get into the San Fran radio market on a
perminate bases because nobody living there would ever want to hear
their city being talked about that way. Especially the prices of the
homes and cost of living there. Then to have some bozo on the radio
keep refering to it as San FranSICKO. That always pissed me off when
I heard him do that.

Recently Spenser filled in for Barbra Simpson on Sat & Sun on KSFO in
San Fran. People treated him really good. Just before ending his
show on Sunday afternoon, Spencer took a string of phone calls and
people were telling him how much they liked him and enjoyed his show.

I thought maybe this would put an end to him calling San Fran, San
Fransicko. With all the warmth and good wishes the his listners had
for him that day. I thought that would turn him around for sure.

When Spencer got back to Sacramento and was doing his normal Mon - Fri
show, he still refered to it as San Fransicko. That totally pissed me
off! If he doesn't like that city he shouldn't be working there.
Period!. People don't like their city being ripped.

#2. A while back a listner called Spencer and told him what a whinning
negative person he was. The caller made some good points. But Spencor
got all mad and upset by this caller. Then when the caller left,
Spensor asked his other listerners to call him and attack his other
caller. I thought that was a low blow. The guy was no longer on the
line to defend himself. But because Spensor's little ego was dented,
he called upon everyone else to beat on this caller who was no longer
online. I totally lost respect for Spensor when he did that. It was
uncalled for. He didn't need to bully his caller.

But if anyone knows for sure what happened, I'd like to hear it.

I agree about spencer "burning" his employment bridges, concerning SF.

I recall that Chicken Lady was on a week before he disappeared. Might have
something to do with it? He didn't handle her fairly.

Chicken Lady? What happened? I have no idea who she is or anything. I
missed this completely. Ohh wait.. it's this some attorney
protecting chickens or something? How did you feel Spensor handled
that? I think I kinda remeber that now.

I really think Spensor got canned because of low ratings and lack of
sponsors to the show. Near the end he was surprised that there was no
commercials to do for 30 minutes or longer. Thats not a good sign.

What hurt the show (In my opinion) was Spensors constantly talking his
kids and bringing them on the show. Also he had constant temper
tantroms about silly meaningless things. I remeber once someone
brought him food. And he spent about 30 minutes eating it close to the
mic. You could hear hin chewing it and moaning. It was gross. I
turned the station to something else. I bet many other people did that
too. By Spencors own admission, he was gettings complaints from his
listeners about doing to much talking about his kids. Nobody really
cares. I know I don't want to hear about them either, or listen to
him eating, or hear about his rage of how people dress at Cosco, or
about how mean and abusive he is to his dog. I think Spensor was
downright cruel to his dog and it angered me at his details on how he
beat his dog or the cruel things he would do to it in order to punish
it.

Ohh ONE more thing I just happened to remeber. I don;t know why I
forgot about this one. But I remeber Spensor once reading a newspaper
article about how some teacher made some elementary school age
children to sit in the hot sun for over an hour to punish them. It
was like 100 degrees outside and Spensor refered to the children that
complained what a bunch of babies they were.

I bet if ANYONE made one of Spensors kids stand out in the hot sun for
1 minute Spensor would be having a major fit about it. I think it's
sick that some teacher did that to those children, and whats worse is
that Spensor thought it was perfectly normal.
Anyway, these are just my views. Its unlikley that Spensor will be on
the air here in the Sacramento area anytime soon.

What happened is what happens when a phone screener thinks he knows
more about doing the talent's job than the talent does. Spencer the
junior phone screener thought that he knew more about designing,
producing and executing a talk show than those who have done so
successfully for years. After blowing himself out of KSFO he blew
himself out of KFBK. Finally he managed to blow himself out of a
small market dollar hollar run by a non-player group. His ratings at
KFBK never matched those of the radio station and at KTKZ he managed
to drive nights to a rating below that of a Nevada City station which
cannot even be heard in the Metro. In other words, he could not even
match KTKZ's sub-one-share in the Sacramento market even though he was
surrounded by third rate syndicated talent that survives on direct
response advertising. He is an example of what happens when the person
on the air thinks that the show is about them and not about the
audience, ratings and revenue. Radio is a business, not a personal
therapy session. Spencer does not realize that. He is a very nice
person but a very nice person who does not have the talent, knack or
ability to pull off a successful radio program.

WoWzers!!! Thanks VERY much for this informative message. I just
figured something like this happened. If you read my messages I
posted here, there was a time at the end that Spencer had no
commercials for long periods of time. Plus he was offering his
services to do work for other people to bring him money he needed,
like mowing lawns and stuff like that.

And your 101% correct in saying that his shows were primarily based
upon him. He would always be talking about his kids, and other trivial
things that I felt the audience didn't want to hear about. On his web
site he's claims to have another project coming up soon. But we'll
see. Unless he changes his ways and humbles himself and learns that
business, he won't go very far in radio.

Speaking of KFBK, why do they have to give their call sign out every
single second? And to make matters worse, they play these 30 second
spots advertising KFBK several times an hour. It contains sirens, cars
honking, thunder, lightening, explosions. And they play this over and
over and over again. Hour after hour after hour.

Heres a typical dialog from any day of the week:

The KFBK time is 12:05 right here on KFBK. This is KFBK 1530 and now
lets go over to KFBK Bob with the KFBK weather. Hi this is KFBK Bob
with the KFBK weather and it's 95 degrees outside the KFBK studios.
That was the KFBK weather and this is KFBK Bob. And now back to KFBK
Jill. This is KFBK Jill on KFBK 1530.

Then we hear that 30 second spot with KFBK.

KFBK KFBK more news KFBK KFBK KFBK KFBK more
traffic right here on KFBK 1530. KFBK KFBK KFBK KFBK KFBK.

Its really sick!! How many times can they say KFBK?

Also, on KFBK, they have this female news lady named Kitty O'neil..
And she has to giggle at everything that anyones says. Especially when
it comes to Tom Sullivan. I call her "Miss Giggles the 900# news
reading sex Kitty." Evertime Tom Sullivan says something, this
Miss Giggles procceds to break into thunderous laughter. Like thats
the most funniest thing she has ever heard. Well, at least until Tom
speaks another sentence and then she starts to giggle one more time.

And she talks like one of those 900 porn numbers operators. In this
very seductive whispery sugar coated voice. Like she is tickling a
guys balls with her tongue and reading him the news and waiting for
him to shot his load. Personally I think she is gross. I don't want
the news to be read like she is masturbating with the microphone and
thinking she is giving all her listerns all around Sacramento boners.

A typical conversation with Tom is like this:

Tom: Yeah I went to my car earlier today to drive to work.

Kitty: Oh REALLY Tom.. <Giggle Giggle Giggle>

Tom. Then I took my keys out of my pocket and unlocked the door and
climbed into my car.

Kitty. <Giggle Giggle Giggle> <Giggle Giggle Giggle> Oh Tom.
<Giggle Giggle Giggle> So you got into your car huh? <Giggle
Giggle Giggle>

Tom: Yeah, and then I started the engine and let it warm up just a
little before putting it into drive.

Kitty. <Giggle Giggle Giggle> <Giggle Giggle Giggle> When I
drive my car I do the same. <Giggle Giggle Giggle>. So what did
you do next Tom (Spoken in a soft whipery voice) <Giggle Giggle
Giggle>

Tom: Then I backed out of the drive way and headed for the station.

Kitty: <Giggle Giggle Giggle> <Giggle Giggle Giggle> <Giggle
Giggle Giggle> Sounds like you've had one fun afternoon Tom.
<Giggle Giggle Giggle><Giggle Giggle Giggle><Giggle Giggle
Giggle><Giggle Giggle Giggle><Giggle Giggle Giggle><Giggle Giggle
Giggle>

I like Tom Sulivan, but I can't stand that Miss Giggles porno
newsreading clown of a sidekick he has.

You must never have seen an Arbitron diary. That's the "bible" radio stations
live by...the ratings service they use to determine how many people are
listening.

Quite frankly...people are stupid. If you don't put the call letters on the
air at LEAST 60 to 100 times an hour in locally produced shows, they will write
something else down in those books. Guarantee it. I bet the Sacramento book
has many notations of Rush Limbaugh on KSTE, KHTK and probably even KCTC. It
probably also has listeners giving KFBK credit for Dr. Laura, and Howard Stern
is now probably showing up on KSEG for some listeners.

People are stupid. (Not you, of course.)

Umm, you have some issues, m'boy. Maybe you'd better adjust yourself next time
you're in the car listening to her.

The frequency with which call letters, time and dial position are
given is a response to the design of the ratings system. Those are
the three essential elements for diary keepers to enter. The
frequency with which they are given, Tom, Kitty and the quality of
personality, content, show design and flow and the station's
reputation for being the place to turn to for breaking news and
discussion of front of mind events all adds up to a 15 share. That is
more than twice the second place station's audience share and makes
KFBK one of the top five most listened to AM radio stations in the
country, behind only the likes of WABC in New York. Sacramento is an
after thought market (not a primary buy) so it is not surprising that
a radio station which takes a major market approach to its air product
would succeed.

Thanks for taking the time to answer and comment on my messages. By

know quite a lot about this business. And I'm glad you're here with
your comments.

I've been a "radio talk show junkie" for years and years. I dunno if
you've been around for as long as I have but lets talk a stroll down
radio talk show memory lane, shall we. I remeber Jim Eason's radio
program on KGO radio in San Fran when it was noon - 4:00pm. Then it
got moved to 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Then 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Then he took a
long leave of absence and went onto KSFO from 2:00pm till 4:00pm. Jim
Eason was awesome and I really miss his shows.

Also theres Larry (WHATS THE QUESTION?) King. I forgot what station
he was on late at night. Could have been KNBR but not sure. I
listened to him for years and years. I even remember his very first TV
show he did which flopped. Then he moved to CNN and the rest his
history. I remember all those charactors Larry King had on his show.

Ohh yeah.. hears another one. Tom Camble on KYA in San Fran. Although
not a talk show host. Sheesh! Time really flys by!

But as far as all that KFBK'ing that goes on with KFBK is something I
have never experienced before. I understand what you are saying BUT
there is a limit!! KFBK crossed that limit into another dimension
with thier call signs.

One day I'm going to count how many times they give out their call
letters per minute. I kid you not, I bet its someone around 30 times
every minute!! They give their call sign for every sentence. So lets
do the math. If they give it out 30 times a minute, (if not, more)
And theres 60 secounds in an hour. They must give it out 1,800
times per hour!! Now this is only during the news. Every other word is
KFBK. And to make it worse, now that station and KSTE now have this
British woman saying, "And remeber, you're listening to KSTE". I HATE
that!! How can I forget when they give their call sign sign out
1,800 times an hour. Now they are TELL me what to do? Hey, I don;t
remeber big on their payroll, so why should I be bossed around to
remeber anything!

>People are stupid. (Not you, of course.)

Are you trying to be smart ass here? Hey I never insulted you. I
never suggested people are stupid nor that I am smart. Why this
comment?

>>And she talks like one of those 900 porn numbers operators. In this
>>very seductive whispery sugar coated voice. Like she is tickling
>(rest mercifully deleted)

Well I listened today just incase Kitty O'neil, (Miss Giggles. the
porn voiced news reading, always laughing, over sexed kitten)
and she did the same thing as always. Tom Sullivan was talking about
David Letterman and her she was sounding like a french whore in heat,
with her whispery, everything is funny, aren't I cute, voice. It's
more like scratcing a blackboard with your finger nails then anything
else.

She just has to laugh at every single thing Tom has to say.

Tom says: I like David Letterman.

And she says back in a halarious laughing voice:

haha I like hahaha David hahahah Letterman hahahah too. hahahah

And she needs to slur her words purposly to show that she is laughing
so hard she can barley talk. So you get this like mush mouthed reply
because she is laughing so hard.

Is all a fake. NOBODY. And I repeat NOBODY is funny ALL the time. Not
Bill Cosy, not Letterman, Leno, or Eddie Murphy, or Andrew Dice Clay,
or Bob Hope, NOBODY!!

But as sure as there is death and taxes. And as sure as the sun will
rise in the morning, you can bet that Kitty O'neil, (Miss Giggles)
will be laughing one more time at 2:20pm and again at 3:20pm
with Tom Sullivan to the point that she can't even pronouce words any
longer.

>And you call HER "gross"???

YES!! And I will stand by that. I'm sick of her turning the news
into her own sexual sounding, porn reading agenda. Like she is trying
to get every man at the sound of her voice hard. There is no
question what she is trying to do. And I'm NOT the only person who has
noticed this. I've been told this by many others, so I don't stand
alone.

And I'm tired of her little 'cutie pie' act of her trying to sound
sexy and laughing at every single thing that is said to her. Not
everything is funny. And can't she hold a normal conversation with
someone rather then faking a laugh to the point she can no longer
pronouce words? Day after day. Week after week. Year after year.

What in hell is so darn funny? Tom says, "boo" and Miss Giggles goes
immediatly into a 30 second laugh track. She can't breath, she can't
talk. Only thing she can do is laugh. And when she's coming out of
her laughing fit, she tries to talk now but she can only slur her
words in this stage. Day after day. Week after week. Year after
year. If you don;t belive me, than tune into the Tom Sullivan show.
You or anybody will here this go on Mon thru Fri.

>Umm, you have some issues, m'boy. Maybe you'd better adjust yourself next time
>you're in the car listening to her.

What are you suggesting here? I'm gay, so her "twat talk" has no
effect on me. As a gay male, I am very offended and insulted with her
mannerisms. She should save her sexual sweet talking "twat talk" for
her husband at 3:00am. Instead she reads the news like it's from a
page out of "Hussler Magazine."

Plus I am offended and disgusted with her trying to sudduce and rape
me over the airwaves with her "cuteness". This is sexual harrasement
at its finest. It has no place for the newroom.

The news, weather, stocks, and traffic reports are not funny or sexy.
And she needs to quit her sexual overtones, and whipery soft, sexual
voice or get the hell off the radio so someone else can do in a more
professional like manner. Kitty O'neil, (Miss Giggles the porn
sounding, always laughing sex kitten) should open a 900 number
business instead of using the public air waves for her lusty desires.

I'm going to send a lettler off to the station manager and tell him
how I feel about this. In fact, I hope he's reading this now. If you
are:

A, Stop the sugary coat whipsery sex voice of Kitty O'neail. It's
unprofesional and offensive. And her "on cue" laughing fits have
got to stop. It's phoney and fake and everyone knows it. Plus it makes
your station look bad.

B. Quit the KFBK'ing every freakin' secound. ENOUGH ALREADY!!! We
got it. Its KFBK 1530am. We don't need to hear it 1800 times a hour.

C. And quit interupting Michael Savage when he comes back from the
break. He's already been talking for 10 seconds and your're just
finishing doing the trafic report. Can you're techs ever cordinate
that? Where did you hire your engineers and techs from? Some special
retard school where they arrive everyday at your station in a special
small yellow bus? Get your act together!!

Other than this I have no opinion. Have a nice day.

I think Tom and Kitty must be from a family or something. Seems like it to
me, as its always the same old stuff.

Least the station gave Spencer some time on their station. Remember Spencer
reading some novels on that station, then grousing about not being allowed
to do Tom's spot when Spencer went to the other station...

Spencer burnt so many bridges in SF. It was awful hearing him bash Herb
Kane, writer for the Chronicle for over 30 years.

Larry Kings stuff was so good, it just replayed over and over again. Some of
his callers, The Numbers Man (King is a gambler.), Mumbles...
