Is there any restrictions to have scanner in a pocket, entering plane?
Am I allowed to use scanner in a plane?
If it is wide continious coverage hand-held Yupiteru MVT7100?
Any restrictions in Canada / USA for that?

I think that depends on the air carrier. Some forbid operation totally while
others will ask you to not use them while landing and taking off. Go figure.
Some have no polic concerning them so you might want to call ahead and check.
Don't forget to declare that Yupi to Customs!

I find the best policy is to ask the pilot. It is ultimately up to him and
every single time I have asked the pilot I have never been denied.
The last note said that Northwest does not allow it, but I have flown
Northwest a lot (not much else flies out of Detroit Metro!) and have never
had a problem using my Amateur Radio HT as a scanner on the plan. I have had
stewardesses say something, but once I mention that I spoke with the pilot,
it is usually not a problem.

Being a pilot myself, I usually start with that before asking for
permission to use the radio! :) :)

Mexicana Yes? They never knew, but I think they would have permitted.

when I suggested listing the airlines and the policy, I had in mind
"official" policy communicated to passengers. I am really only interested
in factual information rather than speculation.

USAir Yes any type of receivers are OK, but CBs and HAM
radios, as well as CD players are prohibited
(CDs were allowed until a few months ago.)

Well since Ames,Ia. will soon be moving to the 800 Mhz trunking system I was
wondering what the future for scanning trunking systems. Will there be
dedicated systems or some other kind of madness. I do not like the idea of
following the conversations manually and probably wont even bother. What it
comes down too is that I do not want to buy a PRO-43 to listen to HAM and
highway patrol. So someone fill me in on the future thoughts of tackling
this problem with a financially resonable future.

In addition to Richard Crisp's list I have recently flown with SAS from Stockholm -> Manchester...

SAS No SAS (Scandinavian Airline Systems)
No radio transmitters/recievers, cellular phones are to be switched
on during the flight. However they do allow personal stereos, after . the seatbelt sign has turned off, they could have radio recievers I . guess.

British Airways yes Earlier this year, I asked the pilot for
permission while over Europe. He said
no problem. I dont know if this is a
company policy though. Was not able to pick up
much though.
