I think someone put a bumper beeper on my car. Is there any scanner on the
market that could locate these kinds of devices?

Thanks in advance.

The most effective way to determine if there is in fact a bumper beeper on your
car would be to have a sweep done with a spectrum analyzer. Most devices of
this type operate in the VHF range. You could scan the band listening for the
beep these units put out. You could remove the antenna and move it about the
vehicle. A good visual inspection of the vehicle would also be a good idea as
some of these devices can be remotely turned on and off. Another suggestion
would be to use a frequency finder while you are on the move.

Save your money. Just look under the car. They are easy to spot.

There are devices available to detect EM transmissions across the entire
spectrum. You could try:

I believe a "bumper beeper" is a radio location device. Surely, you have
seen such in a television show or movie. The device emits a signal which is
tracked (either by one person with a signal strength meter or more
accurately and efficiently by two persons by triangulation) to determine the
vehicle's whereabouts. Lo-jack devices would be of this sort.

Go to our website, click on ARTICLES, then on Vehicle Tracking Systems

It's one of those devices required by the EPA or FEMA or one of those
out-of-control JBT agencies that *occasionally* has a bright idea.
The "Bumper Beeper" was one of those rare instances that happened when
one of our government drones had their IQ rise above the level of the
average house plant. It goes "eeeeeep! eeeeeeep! eeeeeeep!" when
the vehicle is in (R)everse.

Orrrrrrrr - it could be a tracking transmitter.

Scanners are easily available for either type of beeper.

Why is he concerned about someone putting a bumper beeper on his car?
Is he breaking the law in some way? Is he squiring someone else's
spouse? Or, is he just plain paranoid? If it's the first, we may be
reading about him in the news. : ( If the second, we may be reading
about him in the news after hubby gets ahold of him ; ( If the third,
just hope he doesn't go postal ;) BTW, anyone seen the tape of the
cubical worker that goes Dilbert?, or was it Wally? 8^)

This person's right to privacy went out the window when he asked for
advice in a public forum.
If one is asked for advice, then one's need to know is implied by the
inquiring party.

I am interested in finding a program that decodes alpha pagers. I have several
scanners including a BC895xlt and bearcat 9000. Can anyone tell me what I need
and where to find it!!! Thanks!!!!!

I use an alpha numeric pager for my business and would be most unhappy
to know my competitors were receiving my messages.

So you'll be happy as long as they don't tell you they were receiving
it? The software and hardware is definitely out there, and cheap too.
Even though paging transmissions are just as illegal to intercept as
phone transmissions, they are actually easier to receive due to the
nature of paging coverage.

Be most unhappy. You competitors can probably receive your messages.
They can probably also hear your cellphone conversations, and if you're
using a cordless phone, they may be able to hear that too.

(All of this assumes they are sufficiently motivated to do the work
required.)

Assume anything you say that gets transmitted over the air can be
eavesdropped upon by people without much technical expertise. Most
analog cellphones and many cordless phones are really easy to listen to.
Many "digital" cellphones will drop back to analog mode if no digital
service is available. Pagers are only slightly more difficult.

i believe these are tracking devices that are hide on certain vehicles
to always be able to tell there where abouts, some police depts. have
them on there cars so there trackeded by dispatch as they move about the
city, trucking firms r now useing them to check locations of drivers,
and to find trailers ,there put on all train cars, when there looking
for a certain car they activate the signal and thus r able to locate it,
some new cars have these devises hid on them and if the car gets stolen
there remotly activated and location found. dont belive they throw
out a signal all the time only when activated, each having a different
code no. only known to the tracking center
