I know this is off the group subject, sorry about that but I thought you
may be interested in this.

I read something in one of the cable news groups some time ago about
these descramblers, and that the cable companys in the states send a
signal that they called bullets down the line that can knock out the
descramblers. I don't know how true this is,and if they do it over here.

A couple of things I heard about cable. I was told by a cable repair man
about a chap who complaned that he was getting all the channels but he
did not want them. The cable companys computer said that he only had the
basic package but that they would send the signal to turn scrambler on
again. A couple of days later he phoned back to say that he still had
all the channels and that he wanted a man to take this box away as soon
as possable. They did this and replaced the box with a scrambler that
worked. Now I don't know about you but I would have kept my mouth
shut....

A friend of mine bought a video recorder some time ago, he had cable
with just the basic package. When he tuned the recorder in he found that
he could get all the cable channels. Don't ask me how this worked, I saw
it for myself. If he used the cable box he just got the basic package,
but by putting the TV on to the video channel he could get all the cable
channels. He has gone to the states to live now, I would have had it off
him but it was one of those multi standard jobs and he took it with him.
Guess what...it works over there as well. You may think I'm having you
on about this but I'm not. When he first told me about it I did not
believe him because I knew that the channles are scrambled, but when I
saw it for myself and retuned the video myself, there they were all the
cable channels.

If someone out there could shed some light on how this may have worked I
would like to know.

But most of the UK Cable Companies use Jerrold (Canada) style cable
converters, complete with the Jerrold scrambling system...so it *might*
work here too...Cable being far too expensive here....worth a try if you
have cable..I dont here in the UK, but the device worked fine with the
Toronto Cable Co for many years!
