The scanner is the same unit as the Radioshack 2042, but 25-1300Mhz. NO gaps
and 500 Channels. I use the 225 and have it scanning the marine freqs and
aircraft plus mil stuff.

Sorry, but the COM225 is no PRO-2042. While they are similar in some aspects,
the 225 does not have the same quality of receiver as the 2042. It is also
missing or implements differently some of the more flexible features of the
2042 (like priority, selectable step sizes, etc.) The 225 can not be used with
the Optoelectronics OS535 board which adds computer control and several other
features to the 2042. To its credit, the 225 is a solid radio and the addition
of the S-meter and keypad accessible attenuator are welcome.

I have reviews of both radios on my site for anyone interested in comparing
the finer points of both of these GRE-made radios.

Many thanks for that, I should have said similar to the PRO 2042, I am no
scanner expert. I just read the review on
http://www.javiation.co.uk/com225.html

"Produced by GRE for Commtel the new COM225 is similar in both appearance
and features to the Tandy PRO-2042. "

Whilst manufactured by GRE Japan the COM-225 is similar but not the
same as the PRO-2042.

One drawback is that the step sizes are fixed and cannot be changed.
They default to:

25.00 - 87.500 : 5kHz
87.50 - 107.950: 50kHz
108.00 - 136.975: 25kHz
137.00 - 143.995: 5kHz
144.00 - 146.000: 12.5kHz
146.00 - 224.995: 5kHz
225.00 -1300.000: 12.5kHz

As I said in an earlier post under N2MCA, I should have said similar, which
means you are not getting all the postings.

Not necessarily. I replied to your message before Rich sent his reply
although they would appear from your replies to have arrived in reverse
order on the news server you use.
