I am using a line in cable. PDW shows that a signal is ok in its title
bar but all it decodes is what is below...
any ideas. please help

Are you using a Discriminator output from the radio?
KW
> hi I've been trying to decode message on PDW for awhile now and all i
This looks familiar to me! You are presumably using a direct connection from
the headphone output to the soundcard.
I HAVE had success this way but...
Firstly, try the 'invert' option since the audio wave form may be 'upside
down' when compared to what the program expects. I your case, I think you
are probably OK here.
Secondly, you may have to adjust the audio level; I'm afraid that this is
very critical and I would suggest:
Tune to a POCSAG or lower bitrate FLEX transmission. (The 138 MHz or for
example 153.35 MHz for POCSAG; 153.020 or 153.325 for flex).
Then - if your audio is digitally adjustable, start from about 20% and go up
one increment at a time, and when you get it right note the exact level at
which it works.
For analouge (i.e. a rotary control), go to a oow volume point and adjust
the level upward about 5%, or less until you see something decode as
gibberish! This means that you are close to the correct setting. Then try
very small adjustments until you get results.
Make sure that you make a note of the correct volume setting though - or you
will need to repeat the procedure!!!
A second receiver is useful here, since you can tell when a transmission is
coming in (saves you from sitting over the signal strength display).
I would email you a copy of my pocsag.ini file only all my gear is in store
at the moment as I am about to move house.
P.S if all else fails, try closing down any other applications you may be
running, since the decoding does not work if the system is too busy (games
and audio conversion applications, CD writers ans so on are resource
intensive in particular).
Any help?
DN
If all that does not work............... Do it the easy way with a 2 level
slicer and a discriminator output!
KW. Decoding 3200 FLEX 100% 24/7.
no i'm not and i do not have the knolatge to make one. i am jsut using

ok some came though. what is the easyest way to make a discriminator
Don't expect too much in the way of results without one.

Go to http://www.discriminator.nl/index-en.html
and see if your radio is listed.
This is similar to what you should be getting..........

And in case it is not, please read the FAQ at

I see. Maybe someone in your vicinity with experience in electronics?
Local electronics shop or amateur radio club?
Rene
A few importand things...
get the reciever away from the pc as much as possible, the noise that gets
picked up from a PC is very very high and will ruin the results.
Volume is critical, it does not need to be loud but must be very clear and
not distorted.
In the setup options, choose between the different settings. I use
SpeakerOut1 with mine and seems to work ok.
Many messages are coded, messages that have grey characters in have not
been decoded properly but if the letters are green? (I think) this is OK.
I live in Stafford and Staffordshire amulance service use FLEX which is
run by vodafone.
I also use the Line In on the souncard and have isolated audio which goes
via audio transformers which help cut down the noise between the scanner
and the PC.
What scanner do you have?
