Hi, I remember listening, when I was a kid, to a Chicago station,
maybe WGN, late at night when Franklin McCormack was the voice, and
one of his shows was " The Torch Hour " where he played love lost
songs from the 40's and 50's. Any information would be appreciated,
and if you have a recording...why, I'd be delighted!

Thanks, Marti

Funny you should bring this up...someone had just brought up his name to me
recently causing me to do some research.

There are some recordings on the first link.

I was listening to some of his airchecks from 1964....wondering what it
must've been like to be drving around listening to these songs...and that
voice!

And being on WGN ("A clear channel station in Chicago".) Must've been a
kick to be able to pick it up all over the USA.

He sounded like a classy guy...who knew his audience, and could pull it off
at that hour of the night.

Thanks for your response, Radio Pro, and for the information. I'll
visit the website first thing! His show made me fall in love with big
band, swing music, torch songs and singers and the like. He also
ruined me for anything else on the radio...

I too, am interested in Franklyn MacCormack recordings. I was a kid at the time and I would sail my 20 foot sailboat all night on Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc, Wi.(weather permitting) listening to him read his poetry to music. It was a veritable tranquilizer.
