Apparently there was an audio dramatisation done of Karl Edward Wagner's
story Sticks a few years back, but I've never been able to find it on any of
the Peer To Peer networks. Does anyone have any idea where it might be
possible to find a copy of this to download? The original short story is
kind of a classic, and I'd love to hear the show.

Sticks was dramatized as part of the Dr. Fritz series by ZBS and is
available on CD for $12.00 (US) from them <http://www.zbs.org> .

Track 1: Sticks
Based upon the story by Karl Edward Wagner

Track 2: O Boy O Boy O
Set in tomorrow's world where convicted criminals are set free if they
allow their antisocial habits to be replaced by a more "socially
acceptable" personality. When a brilliant Programmer by the name of O
Boy O, decides to create Plots (a series of events) for his criminal
Characters, his own personality becomes endangered.

Both stories were recorded using a special technique called Kunstkopf
Binaural Sound. Developed in Germany by the Neumann Corporation, it's a
solid rubber head (nicknamed "Fritz) with microphones planted in the
inner ear chambers. Fritz "hears" sound the same way as you: in front,
behind, above, below, all around you. To experience this 3-Dimensional
sound, please use your headphones.

ZBS also produced the Jack Flanders and Ruby: The Galactic Gumshoe
series and is a non-profit organization worth supporting by purchasing
their products or by donations.

Thanks for the information, Gerry. The process you described sounds
interesting. Have you heard it? I wonder if the set is worth ordering.

Just a personal opinion, of course: I feel almost anything from ZBS is
worth ordering. I love the Ruby series. Haven't heard Jack Flanders yet,
but I'm looking forward to it. I have a few other ZBS offerings, and they
are all great.

YMMV

The Kunstkopf Binaural effect is overrated -- it just sounds like
ordinary stereo even listening with full over the ears headphones. I
didn't notice any directional effect at all.

The story "Sticks" though is quite good. In fact, the story line is
so close to the movie Blair Witch Project, that it seems almost
certain that BWP is at least a partial ripoff of "Sticks". But
"Sticks" is scarier. Recommended.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I think I'm going to have to order a copy
of this thing.
