You need to use a UUdecoder to decode the files first. There are loads of
tips out on the web. Just do a search for the software you're using to
download the files, and see what works best with it.

Keep navigaing. I know it';s hard..but eventually you'll find one. (As long as
you've got player.)
For those who don't have the player,www.winamp.com is the palce todo.
Darn long time (sometimes as long as one horu) downloadignf these thing on
soudn fil,es but it is sure worth it (I have a fathr Know best..with Wilma
FLintstone,..Jean vanderpyl,who did the exclusive pre-Jane Wyatt "Mrs.Jim
Anderson") and of course Robrt Young..also in
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.78rpm-era, (sp?) I downloaded bandleader-impressario
Paul Whiteman's programs (about four or so, and braodcaster Rich Conaty's shows
on 20s and 30s music, from which Mr. Whiteman;s shows came as everyone know.)
On a Bing Crosby website (INETRNET BING CROSBY MUUEM HOME PAGE,use Yahoo or
other search system), there's a new Crosby radio download every month!

Thanks for Harris, and this should help me as well, as I have had the same
problem (thouigh I run into some great perograms, as I pointed out to him
before, that are downloadable..)
(I've often complained about those darn "txt "files too..)
It took me a while too. Here are two ways to convert the binary files.
You can try wincode which you can download here:
http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=0001ES&b=
Or you can try Free Agent which is a newserver with built in decoding.
I hope this helps. :O)

I've been searching for a solid freeware 32-bit windows 95 uudecoder
that will handle long file names for a while, and I think I've found
just the ticket:
The program is called UUDeview for Windows; it has an elegant
interface and works perfectly. It even remembers the directory
you last decoded to!
Another fine choice is the very simple WUUDoAll, but note that
it does not handle long filenames:
http://home.swbell.net/ravntree/wuudoall.html
For DOS, it's hard to beat the 8kb(!) uudecoder by B.J. Walbeehm;
I have UU version 3.1, but I have no idea where you could get a
copy of this wonderful program any more. It is several times
faster than most uudecoders, handles completely jumbled files,
is not fazed by headers or sig files (ie, you never need to
do the manual text-file editing thing) and decodes what other
programs cannot. Too bad it cannot handle long file names. It
used to be posted to the binary newsgroup on a regular basis a
long time ago as a self-extracting plaintext file.
Try out UUDeview; it seems to be just the ticket.
take care,
martin.

I found out not too long ago that WinZip (www.winzip.com), the
all-purpose file compressor for Win95/98, now includes an integrated
UUdecoder. Save all the messages in sequence into one big file with a
.uue extension and run the result through (at least) WinZip 7.0. The
results come out rather nicely.
Doing it this way occasionally comes in handy on slower servers
where all the parts don't come in at the same time
