This morning on Q… The Republic of Doyle premieres on CBC TV tomorrow.
It's a private detective series set in St. John's Newfoundland at a

city -- with plenty of crime and vice to keep a P.I. busy. Allan
Hawco discusses his dual role - as lead actor and producer - in the
Republic of Doyle.

Coward, today at 1:00 p.m. (1:30 NT) on In The Field with host David

4. YOUR DNTO:
Today on Your DNTO… What gets lost - and found - in translation? This
week, we're looking at where being "linguistically-challenged" gets
us... for better or for worse. Nick Purdon explains why no matter how
hard you try, attempting to sound "hip" with your kids will always,
always make you sound dorky. Habiba Nosheen will explain how a
misunderstanding about a seemingly-innocent childhood ritual nearly
convinced her mom to move the family back to Pakistan. And we'll ask
author Robert J. Sawyer how he feels about the translation of his
novel, FlashForward, to television. ...And DNTO listeners share their
stories of mangling the language.
All that and more on Your DNTO with host Sook-Yin Lee, today at 2:00
p.m. (2:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.
5. IDEAS:

7. CANADA LIVE:
From Vancouver Island to the Arctic Circle, Arlo Guthrie is a native
son! A singer, songwriter, and lifelong political activist, Arlo
Guthrie carries on the legacy of his legendary father, Woodie
Guthrie. Growing up in the early sixties, Arlo spent time with
musicians and beat poets, took it all in and developed his style.
Arlo's expressive, distinctive voice and message is still ringing
clear. He’s a natural-born storyteller, whose tales and anecdotes
bring his concerts to life. Canada Live caught up with this icon of
the 60's folk era, singing and telling stories at the Vancouver Island
MusicFest, in Courtenay, B.C., before an adoring crowd that knew all
the words.
That’s Arlo Guthrie on Canada Live, tonight at 7:00 p.m. (7:30 NT) on
CBC Radio 2.
