Is BBC multicasting on the radio stations or News 24 actually working
permanently?:

http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast/streams.html

The following ISPs support it:

JANET
C&W
Claranet
NetServices
Bogons.net
PIPEX

In progress :
Eclipse.net
Intervivo.net
Easynet

And you need broadband.

I've got Pipex broadband and BBC Multicast is still a mystery to me. The
links on the Trial Streams page don't do anything.

There are some Pipex pages with links to some Broadband BBC stuff - the BBC
News Console and BBC Entertainment Console (which is broken and has been
unusable in IE6 for months) but there
are no streams there just clips like latest weather, latest news etc.

Right.

I suppose the clips might be multicast?

Never got it to work when I was with ClaraNET. Moved to Zen now, so
can't try any more.

What do you have to do to listen to or watch one of these streams then?

i.e. what link do you click on or whatever.

So it does work after all. Could you tell me what bit rate any of the
radio stations are using please?

Instructions are on here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/broadband/info/multicast.shtml

and the Real Player streams are on here:

http://support.bbc.co.uk/multicast/streams.html

Click on 'Multicast'. But you've got to be on one of the ISPs listed
above.

If you are using a router you need to be sure it supports at least
IGMP proxy to connect to the multicast streams - this is what I was
testing.

Did you try radio or TV? What was the quality like?

I tried both - but t be honest I didn't really judge the quality at
all - it was just a binary thing of would it connect via the router or
not - which I proved. Sorry.
