KMOX Revamps Weekday Lineup

Posted: 24 May 2022 08:55 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/226668/kmox-revamps-weekday-lineup/

Following the retirement of longtime 830-11am host Charlie Brennan earlier
this month, Audacy News/Talk 1120 KMOX/98.7 K254CR St. Louis has revamped
its entire weekday lineup effective May 31.

The stations Total Information AM morning news block will be expanded from
5-830am to 5-10am. Current anchors Debbie Monterrey and Tom Ackerman will
continue in the 5-8am block along with investigative reporter Megan Lynch.
Ackerman will then anchor from 8-10am with Carol Daniel, who moves from the
now defunct 12-3pm St. Louis Talks show.

Brennans former co-host Amy Marxkors will be joined for a new 10am to 2pm
show by current Sports Open Line and St. Louis Cardinals pre and post-game
host Kevin Wheeler and part-time host Chris Rongey for The Show.

Dave Glover will remain in the 2-6pm timeslot. The station is searching for
a new host for the evening sports programming, who will also take the role
on the Cardinals pre and post-game shows.

With the lineup change, St. Louis Talks co-host Ryan Wrecker departs the
station. Wrecker joined KMOX in 2017 as overnight and then evening host
before moving to the 12-3pm show to replace Rush Limbaugh in April 2021. He
previously served as Program Director at 1190 WOWO Fort Wayne IN. Unknown
is the status of the third co-host Bo Matthews. Matthews previously hosted
mornings and afternoons at Country 92.3 WIL St. Louis before joining the
midday show and had been at KMOX as a fill-in host since 2019.

Audacy has announced a revamped weekday lineup for News Radio 1120 AM and
98.7 FM KMOX – the voice of St. Louis and the flagship station of the St.
Louis Cardinals.

Beginning May 31, the station will expand its morning show “Total
Information AM” to 10:00 a.m. CT, bolstered by co-anchors Carol Daniel, who
returns to the newsroom and Megan Lynch, investigative reporter. Together
with Debbie Monterrey and Tom Ackerman, they will deliver the news, traffic
and weather listeners depend on, including analysis, in-depth interviews
and open conversation.

Additionally, the station will debut a new midday show following the
retirement of longtime on-air host Charlie Brennan. “The Show” will team up
on-air hosts Amy Marxkors, Kevin Wheeler and Chris Rongey, and air weekdays
from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. CT, effective May 31. Wheeler transitions from
host of “Sports Open Line” and Cardinals baseball pregame and postgame
host, while Rongey expands his part time role. The station will immediately
begin a search for a new host of “Sports Open Line” and Cardinals pregame
and postgame programming.

“This series of updates underscores our overarching commitment to
delivering news and balanced talk shows to the people of St. Louis, while
accentuating the strength of our top-level hosts,” said Becky Domyan,
Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy St. Louis. “From our
award-winning morning show to our unrivaled coverage of the Cardinals, we
want to elevate the conversation.”

New weekday lineup is as follows.

5:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. CT: “Total Information AM” with Debbie Monterrey, Tom
Ackerman and Megan Lynch

8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. CT: “Total Information AM” with Tom Ackerman and
Carol Daniel

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. CT: “The Show” with Kevin Wheeler, Chris Rongey and
Amy Marxkors

2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. CT: “The Dave Glover Show”

6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. CT: St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and “Cardinals Open
Line”

Following an expansion to 98.7 FM in March 2021, the station is today heard
throughout the city’s business district including downtown, Clayton,
midtown, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights and Kirkwood.

Posted: 24 May 2022 06:18 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/226655/sbs-promotes-elisa-torres-to-evp-chief-network-officer/

Spanish Broadcasting System has promoted Elisa Torres to EVP/Chief Network
Officer of SBS National and AIRE Radio Networks.

Torres has led AIRE Radio Networks since 2015, when she was promoted after
serving as SVP Network Operations and Affiliate Sales for two years. She
was named the first female EVP of the company in 2017. Torres also
previously served as Sr. Director of Affiliate Relations and Vice President
of Distribution for Cumulus Media Networks and predecessor ABC Radio
Networks from 2004 to 2013.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) announced today the promotion of
Elisa Torres to Chief Network Officer/EVP, Aire Radio Networks and SBS
National. Torres, the first female executive to hold a Chief position at
SBS, the largest Hispanic-owned and minority certified multimedia and
entertainment company in the U.S., will continue to oversee AIRE Radio
Networks, the largest minority-certified Spanish Language audio network and
will spearhead the advancement of all network and national audio sales and
marketing solutions.

Elisa has played an instrumental role in the creation, growth and
development of Aire Radio Networks and our SBS national audio divisions,
said Raul Alarcon Jr., Chairman of SBS. Her transformational leadership
combined with her tenacity to develop innovative partnership solutions and
strategies has resulted in significant year-over-year revenue growth for
our company. We are excited to have her at the helm of our continued
advancement.

Torres, who is touted as one of the most influential women in radio and one
of the most prominent Latina media executives in the country, initially
joined Spanish Broadcasting System in 2013 to lead the establishment of
AIRE Radio Networks and its syndication efforts. She has been responsible
for overseeing all aspects of its operations, as well as the overall
network sales strategy. In 2017, she was promoted to EVP, AIRE Radio
Networks and SBS National, with the expanded responsibility of streamlining
the network and national sales operations.

Under Torress direction, AIRE Radio Networks has become the leading
minority-certified Spanish Language audio network in the country, reaching
95% of the U.S. HDMA, across 300+ affiliates in the countrys top markets.
Torres has also led the national syndication efforts of programs such as Al
Aire con El Terri, La Mezcla con Alex Sensation, and the newly acquired, El
Show de Omar y Argelia, to name a few.

The growth and success of Aire Radio Networks over the past ten years is a
testament of Elisas unique entrepreneurial ability to build audio vehicles
that effectively reach and culturally engage Hispanic consumers across the
country, said Albert Rodriguez, President and COO. From developing
revenue-generating cross-platform solutions to overseeing one of our most
successful operations, we couldnt be more proud to announce Elisa as the
first female chief in SBS history.

Torres has been the innovator behind some of the AIRE and SBSs most
desirable turn-key platforms such as Artistas 360, an audio-driven,
cross-platform solution that connects advertisers to popular and rising
Latin music artists around the globe in order to voice their campaigns and
represent their brands. Artistas360 is comprised of iconic Latin artists
and celebrities such as Ivy Queen, Carlos Ponce, Farruko and many others.
With the mission of driving efficiencies, revenue and developing SBSs local
on-air talent, she developed the widely successful Influencer Network,
which consist of personalities that represent U.S. Hispanic consumers
across key markets. Advertisers are able to activate the Influencer Network
in order to drive national messaging with local scale through the trusted
reputation of SBS talent.

Its one of my greatest honors to work with the largest minority owned and
certified Spanish Language multimedia company in the nation, said Elisa
Torres. Im extremely grateful for the trust and commitment Ive received
from Raul, Albert and the SBS family for allowing me the opportunity to
build a network that delivers on my passion to empower and inspire the
Latino community.

In addition to building successful network vehicles and marketing
partnership campaigns, Torres has developed cross-platform opportunities
that have translated into proven revenue success. From leveraging offerings
such as Mi Casa Es Tu Casa, a virtual live music concert experience to the
companys digital and expanded live music content portfolio to meet the
advertisers needs, Torres has been at the core of streamlining all of SBSs
multimedia verticals.

Torres also developed the first-ever Spanish language show prep service,
AIRE Show Prep, which empowers and serves radio producers and personalities
with a wide range of content, music mixes, imaging, celebrity, and
influencer voice-over solutions to program their stations.

Prior to joining AIRE Radio Networks/Spanish Broadcasting System, Elisa
played a critical role in establishing and developing some of the first
Spanish Language audio networks in the country. She started her career with
Caracol Radio and worked her way up to be an executive with Cumulus Media,
formally ABC Radio Networks, where she launched ABC Radio Networks en
Español and ESPN Deportes, the first ever Spanish Language sports network.
Torres has also been the leader behind some of the most highly rated
syndicated radio programs featuring iconic Latin influencers such as Maria
Marin, Conexion Thalia, Por El Placer de Vivir con Cesar Lozano and Daddy
Yankee Weekend Show.

Five Powers And What They Say About 2022s Hits

Posted: 23 May 2022 08:00 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blogs/226275/five-powers-and-what-they-say-about-2022s-hits/

How are Top 40 stations filling their power rotation these days?

Three years ago, at a time when it felt like Mainstream Top 40 music was
slowly rebounding, we looked at power rotation on WHTZ (Z100) New York as a
bellwether of available product. In the late ‘10s, Top 40 wasn’t just
reaching back to recurrent to fill up power, there was also a stash of
“never-quite-powers” that could drift back into top rotation during a
particularly soft week. At that time, two out of the five powers on Z100
were songs that were effectively recurrents, but even that seemed hopeful.

When the pandemic hit, radio listening patterns changed, and current-driven
formats were among the stations most impacted. Release schedules slowed,
recurrents dominated callout research (once it resumed), and the
songs-that-would-not-leave from “Blinding Lights” to “Without You” stayed
in the 120x spin range on CHR for weeks on end.

As we prepare for Handicapping the Song of Summer 2022 next week, CHR is
still in a familiar place:

There is more mainstream uptempo product;
So far, it has not translated into consistently improved ratings across the
board for the format, and in light of younger listener erosion, we are
still waiting for proof that better music will translate to better ratings;
It is still hard for songs to make the leap to power. Streaming stories
have put more songs in the format’s consideration set. But if callout is
still an indication of when songs have reached critical mass, even the most
phenomenal records do not look like traditional powers.

Some stations have rethought power rotation, particularly in light of
evidence that playing nine-month-old songs at 130x a week was not
bolstering the format. Z100, in particular, has taken its top spin to 85x a
week and in doing so blurred the line between power and “power new.” Here
are the eight most-played songs on Z100 according to BDSradio:

Harry Styles, “As It Was” (85)
Dove Cameron, “Boyfriend” (84)
Latto, “Big Energy” (82)
Lil Nas X, “That’s What I Want” (78)
Doja Cat, “Woman” (78)
Justin Bieber, “Ghost” (76)
Ed Sheeran, “Shivers” (75)
Lizzo, “About Damn Time” (75)

And here are the powers on five other significant CHR outlets:
KIIS Los Angeles

KIIS is the station with the fewest lingering titles. It is also the
station with the most easily-discernable powers in the range that has been
traditional for CHR over the last decade (although even its 109-115 spins
would have been less aggressive than other large-market Top 40s a few years
ago).

Dove Cameron, “Boyfriend” (115)
Jack Harlow, “First Class” (114)
Harry Styles, “As It Was” (113)
Becky G x Karol G, “Mamii” (112)
Doja Cat, “Woman” (109)

WWWQ (Q99.7) Atlanta

Cumulus’ Q99.7 has been one of the format’s success stories in recent
months, even with a direct competitor. One song here is in typical CHR
super-power rotation; the others, notably, are just under 100 spins. (Like
Z100, that may also be a function of having more foreground personality
shows throughout the day.)

Harry Styles, “As It Was” (117)
Jack Harlow, “First Class” (99)
The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber, “Stay” (99)
Post Malone & the Weeknd, “One Right Now” (98)
Latto, “Big Energy” (93)
Doja Cat, “Woman” (91)

KQMV (Movin’ 92.5) Seattle

Movin’ 92.5 was up 4.4-5.0 in the April PPMs this week. It has
traditionally been the station where current and recurrent are most
fungible, and that remains the case. Just below power, among the station’s
top 10 most played, you’ll still find “Beggin’,” “Positions,” and “Good 4
U.”

Dove Cameron, “Boyfriend” (114)
Glass Animals, “Heatwaves” (113)
Harry Styles, “As It Was” (110)
Doja Cat, “Need to Know” (106)
Doja Cat, “You Right” (106)

WIXX Green Bay, Wis.

In the fall, they were the top-rated CHR in America. WIXX has also been
willing to bring back older songs into power over the last few years,
although those songs have often been very different from the major-market
warhorses. It’s worth noting that the Flo Rida title, which hasn’t been
actively worked, is also in power at rival WKSZ and came to WIXX’s
attention through our Big Hits Energy playlist.

Flo Rida, “Wait” (68)
Latto, “Big Energy” (66)
Justin Bieber, “Ghost” (64)
Ed Sheeran, “Shivers” (64)
Lil Nas X, “That’s What I Want” (63)

CKIS (Kiss 92.5) Toronto

In Canada, where CHR has done relatively well in the country’s handful of
PPM markets recently, power rotation never reached U.S. levels. It’s
currently in the 80-87 range at Bell Media’s Virgin Radio CHRs in Toronto
(CKFM) and Vancouver (CFBT). At Rogers’ Kiss 92.5, it’s considerably less.

Harry Styles, “As It Was” (61)
Justin Bieber, “Ghost” (60)
Elton John & Dua Lipa, “Cold Heart” (56)
Camila Cabello f/Ed Sheeran, “Bam Bam” (54)
Lil Nas X, “That’s What I Want” (54)
