[Edward de Bono] offers a great many ways of
developing and using lateral thinking, but one
is particularly pertinent for my purposes; he
calls it the "intermediate impossible."
To summarize, he says that there is sometimes no
logical connection from one line of thought to
another that may run beside it and that might
be more productive.
To make the connection, he urges introducing, or
holding on to, an idea that in itself makes no sense
but serves as a steppingstone to thinking that could
not be arrived at logically.
