I've been looking for the 12" EP by the canadian punk band The Subhumans for
a couple of years now, with no luck. It has 4 songs on it: Death Was too Kind,
Fuck You, Slave to My Dick, and another tune... they were a cool band, too
bad their guitarist got jailed for trying to blow up an atomic plant. :)
He did a song on the Terminal City Ricochet sondtrack a few years back.
If anyone has leads on this record, or the Deadbeats' "Kill the Hippies" 7"
please let me know. I'll pay or trade for them.

Thanks,
Tom

Just a point of clarification: the Subhumans bassist, Gerry Hannah (aka Gerry
Useless) was part of a group called the Vancouver 5 (or Squamish 5) which was
involved in Direct Action during the early '80's. They blew up a Litton factory
in Toronto, Canada, which was involved in the manufacture of component parts
for the American cruise missile. The Vancouver 5 were also charged with the
firebombing of a Red Hot porn video outlet in British Columbia, as well as the
bombing of hydroelectric substations in B.C.

Maybe I'm naive, but this sort of stuff seems to hold more radical currency
than any *punk* band, ever. BTW, does anyone know if Gerry's still in jail?
Seems that under Canadian penal law, he should be eligible for probation
sometimes soon.

cheers,
Iain

He's been out for years. He only got 5 (I think) because he wasn't
directly involved in the Litton bombing, or the hydro substation bombing.
And Canadian parole is after 1/3 of sentence unless you fuck-up inside,
in which case it's 2/3. Last I heard he was living somewhere in the BC
interior doing folksy music. While in jail he coordinated a recording
arts program. I think he's released a few casettes since getting out.
I'm afraid I have no further details.

Cheers,

I've been trying for about 8 or 10 years.

I have "Slave to My Dick" and "Kill the Hippies" on tape from a
hardcore radio show from around '84 but never found them on record.
I thought only DOA did a "Fuck You" tune? BTW, I think Slave to my dick
is on a comp put out by Jello about 6 or 7 years ago. Red cover,
Reagan's face, back has a picture of a bumb pushing a cart:
musically it was even uglier than the cover. It was called
"Let them Eat Jellybeans" (I can't believe I remembered that!)

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Alberto y Los Trios Paranoias put out a tune
of the same name in November 1978. We used it to blast the frat boys out
of a party about that time.

"Incorrect Thoughts" was the LP the Subhumans did with the original band, with
Gerry Hannah. I can't remember what label it was on, but it was in print 2-3 years ago. I found someone who was selling the 12" 3 years ago, for --$60--.
At that time that seemed like a -lot- for 4 songs, 2 of which I had (Slave to
my Dick is on Let Them Eat Jellybeans & Incorrect Thoughts & Fuck You, the DOA
cover, is on Bloodied But Unbowed.) I'd seen the DeadBeats 7" without a sleev
for $25 back then too. If it had the sleeve I would have gotten it.

Right now I'd either buy the Deadbeats 7" for that price or trade DOA's
Positively DOA 7" for it.

For those interested in Gerry Hannah, he did a song on the Terminal city
Ricochet soundtrack that alternative Tentacles put out, that had a lot of good
songs by Biafra, DOA, Hannah, I Braineater, etc.

Origianlly put out by Freind's Records (I think) but rereleased with two
remixed bonus tracks by CD Records a few years back.

I think MDC also did a pitiful cover of _Big Picture_ on one of their LPs.
