There seems to be a lot of conflict here over whether or not MM sucks...
my two-cents worth is this:
Ok, so Marilyn Manson has nowhere near the emotional intensity and musical
ability of something like NIN, and if you treat MM's music with the same
seriousness that you (hopefully!!) treat NIN's music, then, well.. MM sucks
by comparison.. no doubt about that... but if you treat MM as a bit of
light-hearted gothy fun then it's pretty much ok stuff to listen to - just
don't look too hard for hidden meaning in the lyrics or heart-rending
emotion!!! Sometimes it's just nice to get angry and shout about
nothing....

Bah, it's being way too polite. Manson isn't close to
industrial, maybe the so called "American industrial" where junk like
Filter is considered industrial, but not at all industrial in the true
sense of things. The only some-what more industrial band to ever really
go mainstream was Nine Inch Nails, and personally the only good band out
there in the "American mainstream-industrial division" (old Ministry
stuff was great too). It's a pity too, considering all the power that
groups like Haujobb, Leatherstrip, Skinny Puppy, and :Wumpscut: have in
their music.
