THE lead singer of US band Limp Bizkit claims he visited the hospital
bedside of 16-year-old fan Jessica Michalik after she was crushed in the
moshpit at the Big Day Out concert.

But police say Fred Durst did nothing of the sort.

Jessica's heartbroken parents switched off her life support system five days
after she was crushed by wild crowds during the performance of Limp Bizkit
at the Sydney suburb of Homebush on January 26.

In a video played on the opening day of an inquest into her death yesterday,
Durst told a reporter from Access Hollywood that he visited Jessica
(pictured) at Sydney's Concord Hospital.

"A few days later she died, she never came to," he said.

Officer in charge of the investigation, Det-Insp Gregory Bamford said, to
his knowledge, Durst had never visited the hospital.

Det-Insp Bamford described Jessica's death as a tragic accident.

In faxed answers to po lice questions, Durst said: "In my opinion, the whole
event was completely unsafe and security was completely inadequate."

The inquest before coroner Jacqueline Milledge was to continue today.
