There are five main scales:
Neuroticism
Extraversion
Openness
Agreeableness
Conscientiousness
Of the five, the first three (NEO) are comprised of several subscales:

There are male and female versions.
The test is self-report, and is comprised of over 175 questions to
which one responds from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree. There is
a Neutral choice as well.
The scores yielded are T-scores, with a mean of 50 and a standard
deviation of 10. (IQ scores have a mean of 100 and, depending on the
test, a standard deviation of 15.) Scores from 45 to 55
are labelled 'Average', above 55, 'High', above 65, 'Very High'.
Conversely, below 45, 'Low', below 35, 'Very Low'.
As of this writing I don't have the manual with me, but my recollection of
the interpretation is as follows:
Descriptions for score ranges on each scale are reported. Unlike the
Myers-Briggs, there is no general portrait given which involves the
interaction of the five scales.

If you're interested in the scale, you may want to wait. I think the scale
is slated for release some time in 1993.

Yes, the previous version of the test is called the NEO-PI. I forget
which letters designate the new scale.
In a factor analysis with the MBTI the scales came out like this
E-I = NEO Extraversion
S-N = NEO Openness (iNtuitive = Open)
T-F = NEO Agreeableness (Feeling = Agreable)
J-P = NEO Contientiousness (Judging = Contientious)
