Well it's up to you, mate. If your wife gets "tampo" too many times, that's
what you'll end up to be in no time: LATE. <wink>
Aba! Baliktad na baliktad pala ang Tagalog ko! heh.. i've always

Das okey, Chris, EVERYONE interchanges them! That's kind of the way it
goes, common grammatical error. You spend five or six years in elementary
and high school learning a whole series of these words that Tagalog-speakers
misuse and how to correct your grammar, but then you get all confused and
forget when your back in real conversation.
Huy, JT, since you're being grammar instructor now, can you tell me the
following things that I had to learn in Filipino class, but of course
promptly forgot:
1. When do you use "nang" and when do you use "ng"
2. What's the diff between "walisin" and "walisan". Alam ko mayroon.
3. Pahiran vs. Pahirin
Alam ko marami pang mga ganyan, but of course I forgot! hehehehe...
Mababatukan ako ng mga titser ko...
Kung ako ang tunay na titser mo, I would've ordered you to sit on the corner
with your WHITE SOCKS OFF. <wink>
O sige dahil malakas ka sa akin, I will repetitive again:
Ng - used before a noun
Nang - used before a word that is not a noun (adjective, adverb, verb, etc.)
Correct: Kumain ako NG saging. (precedes a noun) (I ate a banana.)
Incorrect: Kumain ako nang saging.
Correct: Bakit ka tingin NANG tingin diyan? (nang precedes a verb) (Why are
you staring at me?)
Incorrect: Bakit ka tinging ng tingin diyan?
Correct: Tumakbo siya NANG mabilis. (nang precedes an adverb) (He ran as
fast as he can.)
Incorrect: Tumakbo siya ng mabilis.
NANG is also used to commence a clause.
Example: Nang sumikat ang araw, nangagsitilaok ang mga manok. (Upon the
rising of the sun, the chickens started cock-a-doodle-doo-ing.) [Sorry po,
hindi ko alam ang transliteration ng tilaok sa ingles, e. <kindat>]
>2. What's the diff between "walisin" and "walisan". Alam ko mayroon.
--------------
Walisin - to sweep off something
Walisan - to sweep a place.
Correct: WALISIN mo ang kalat sa sahig. (Sweep the mess off the floor.)
Incorrect: Walisan mo ang kalat sa sahig.
Correct: WALISAN mo ang sahig. (Sweep the floor.)
Incorrect: Walisin mo ang sahig.
>3. Pahiran vs. Pahirin
--------------
Pahiran - to wipe/apply on something with a solvent/cleaning agent.
Pahirin - to wipe off something.
Correct: PAHIRAN mo ang pader ng liquid soap. (Wipe the wall with liquid
soap.)
Incorrect: Pahirin mo ang pader ng liquid soap.
Correct: PAHIRAN mo ang pader.
Incorrect: Pahirin mo ang pader.
Correct: PAHIRIN mo ang amag sa pader. (Wipe off the molds from the wall.)
Incorrect: Pahiran mo ang amag sa pader.

>Alam ko marami pang mga ganyan, but of course I forgot! hehehehe...
--------------
Another is DASALIN vs. DASALAN:
Dasalin - to recite a prayer
Dasalan - to pray over something / pray for someone
Correct: DASALIN mo ang Ama Namin. (Recite the Lord's Prayer.)
Incorrect: Dasalan mo ang Ama Namin.
Correct: DASALAN mo ang ulam bago ka kumain. (Pray over the food before you
eat.)
Incorrect: Dasalin mo ang ulam bago ka kumain.
Correct: DINADASALAN ko ang nitso ni Lola tuwing Mahal na Araw. (I pray over
Granny's tomb every Lenten season.)
Incorrect: Dinadasalin ko ang nitso ni Lola tuwing Mahal na Araw.
DALASIN vs. DALASAN:
Dalasin - to frequent a place
Dalasan - to do something frequently
Correct: DADALASIN ko ang APH at SCF upang makipanayam sa mga ibang Pilipino
sa internet. (I will frequent APH and SCF to correspond with other Filipinos
on the 'net.)
Incorrect: Dadalasan ko ang APH at SCF....
Correct: DADALASAN ko ang ligo para lagi akong mabango. (I will shower more
often so I always smell fresh.)
Incorrect: Dadalasin ko ang ligo para lagi akong mabango.
DALAS vs. DASAL
Example: Kung hindi ka magka-anak, dapat kunin mo sa DALAS at hindi sa
DASAL. (If you can't bear children, you should do it more often than praying
more often.)
