Two problems in one here.

The first is that on Saturday (15July) I started getting 481 (exceeded
monthly bandwidth limits) errors when trying to log in to the news
server. Unexpected since the 16th was usually the day those usage logs
reset. (The reset used to happen on the 1st but changed without notice.)

The second is that I used to get the occasional email from Giganews that
I was approaching (or exceeded) the limits. That hasn't happened since
Vadesecure started filtering incoming email. Probably because Giganews
was hacking the headers to make the notice appear to be from Earthlink.

Oh, when Earthilnk provided information on Usenet, it was implied that
bandwidth limits were not on an email account basis but applied to all
accounts. That doesn't seem to be the case since I am using an alternate
email account for this.

I suspect that what happened is that the usage period has been returned
to a calendar month again. But they failed to alter the usage statistics
before the change. Meaning that the usage period this time is a month
and a half. Which is what happened when they changed to the 16th.

I only use ELN's usenet access to read and post text newsgroups so I
haven't reached the data caps. Is it still 5 GB per month?
Slammy colony Friday. Tired CATurday. It's SDCC time again! :D

The cap is/was 35GB. Way back when Vadesecure wasn't blocking the emails
I figured out that the "approaching the limits" email went out at around
25GB.

Interesting that they increased from 5 GB limit per e-mail address.

I am still getting the 481 bandwidth exhausted errors. So it still
hasn't reset. If it ever will again.

I did poke Earthlink customer service with limited results. I finally
received a call from level 3 support on 26 July. (no call back since
even though one was promised one in 24 to 48 hours.) The fact that she
had no clue what NNTP or Usenet were was not in any way encouraging.

Not much of a surprise though. I keep expecting Earthlink to terminate
their deal with Giganews. They aren't much for giving notice (see web
space) so maybe this is how they are doing it.
