I switch to "free range" DSL years ago (no phone line required).
For another 20 a month, I saved 70 bucks by not having a land line
(which was only used for dial-up).
When I married, I kept the account, even as I access the Interwebs
via my wife's ISP. It isn't worth the hassle to try and roll back,
and as long as the access to the newsgroups continue I'm content with
it.

Whether they have or not, they've outsourced it to someone.
Now, why am I having this mental image of a call center in
California, where all the techies have been through accent
normalization classes to learn to speak like they are from New Delhi.
